post your yfw when Half-Life 3's NDA was lifted and it turned out that Valve had no intention of capping off the series that brought them in to stardom
They're 6-7/10 FPS' that rely on cutting edge tech at the time to be special and leave a lasting positive impression. They're not very good video games.
Valve was completely correct in waiting for the source 2/new tech to make the game happen on and it's probably for the best it just never does.

who gives a fuck if they were good video games or not. Cutting the story in the middle of it is what pissed off people
>>388204798
nobody gives a fuck IRL you sperg it's been a fucking decade get out of your basement
>>388204798
Most of my favorite series have been cut down mid thought. Get over yourself.
>>388204675
fuck
off
>>388204798
>people caring about the story of Half Life
I know people unironically do, but I don't understand why at all. It's not offensive or anything, but when I finished it I didn't think much about it after. Meh.
>>388204934
This
>>388204997
You fuck off retard. Half Life isn't a great FPS, and it's Valve's worst series besides DOTA 2.
>>388204934
You need to expand your horizons. HL/HL2 were never all that good.
>>388205031
Same here. Must be a nostalgia thing for people.
>>388205227
I assume you responded to the wrong person because I'm arguing the same thing as you.
>>388204675
Half-Life 1 has better atmosphere, map design, weapon design, enemy design, variety, than almost any other game, on top of being revolutionary, and spawning countless of important mods. Begone, peasant.
>>388204280
They never said they'd stopped working on the game. Not out of a desire to keep hope alive, not because they were unsure if they would make the game. They simply didn't care. They didn't care, and still don't, about their fans. Valve is as soulless of a company as EA, or any other publisher.
Thats what really hurts. Fuck Valve.
You guys think this was Breen?
>>388205142
>worst series
>worst than L4D
>>388204675
>rely on cutting edge tech
>reinvented how stories are told in the FPS genre, for the better
>>388204675
>Half Life 1 and its expansions not good games
Kill yourself Nintentoddler.
>>388204675
VR happened and they missed the opportunity to make a killing on VR sets.
>>388205536
Yes. Half Life are mediocre corridor FPS and worse than the Left 4 Dead games from a game design perspective.
>reinvented how stories are told in the FPS genre, for the better
I didn't realize
>Listen to conversation
>Shoot down a hallway
>Listen to a conversation
>Shoot down a hallway
For an entire game was a change for the better.
>>388204675
If I could poison dumb fucking contrarians like you, I would.
>>388204280
its gonna be a movie
>>388204280
I'm more confused at the uproar than anything else. It's been a decade, it was obvious it was dead years ago and while the games were good this weird obsession seems to have kept momentum because of the rise of le epic nerd meme culture rather than the story was worth concluding.
If you'd told me this is how the franchise would end back when HL1 released and I was at uni obsessively playing it and TFC I would have been gutted but that ship gas long since sailed for anyone with half a brain cell.
>Dude HL2
Who cares? Just reboot the series at this point.

>>388205690
This is one of the only "contrarian" opinions i hold. Half Life has always been overrated mediocrity
>>388205940
>this is the person telling you that the games you love are shit
jej
>>388206146
Just like how Seinfeld is unfunny right? Even then...
>>388206378
Nah Seinfeld is hilarious.
Half Life is an unremarkable series when you remove the newness of the tech from the equation
>>388206172
Stephen King's son plays vidya?
>>388205863
It's memes, mostly. The whole "HL3 confirmed!" and "when are we going to get HL3? shit reached an audience of people that is bigger than the people who actually played them at this point.
My little brother and his shithead Steam friends all pretend to love them and make Half Life 3 jokes when they've got like an hour or two played in either game between them all.
>hl3 was going to end on a cliffhanger anyway
It's obvious they were going to continue it with Alyx as the star. Even if hl3 happened the butt hurt would be unfathomable.
>>388206594
No just some random retard writing highschool tier hour long essay about how to make video games.
>>388205689
Or you could just skip past the conversation.
Shocking I know, it's almost as though the story going on around you as you play instead of having to sit through a cutscene is exactly the innovation that Half Life brought to the FPS genre. Also:
>defending L4D from a "design perspective"
>an even worse offender of being a corridor shooter
you'll "get" HL one day anon, keep hating it now so that when it clicks it'll be so much more rewarding.
