It's hard for small indie games to be hurt by piracy as unlike AAA tittles, people rarely seek them out to pirate them. They are cheaper, people feel worse about it being a small dev and most importantly no one knew about before finding the torrent probably. Games like Hotline Miami were helped by piracy because they gained exposure and people felt the devs were wroth supporting.

This is actually pretty cool of the devs to do. I've been looking at buying this game for a while, but I hate buying Early Access games just on the sake of principal alone. But things like this? Make me wanna throw some dosh their way never the less. Always nice to see a studio be humble for once, and try to earn some good will from gamers instead if further nickle and diming us. I backed it on indiegogo ages ago as well and regret nothing. I got to start playing ages ago, and by doing so helped fuel the development of the title into what it is now. Why be mad? They are still selling the game, they just know that no matter what the game will be pirated, so why not just let a copy out into the wild on your own and get a little PR to go along with it. I know lots of people will pirate and buy it. Sure some wont, but they weren't going to buy it anyway. Pretty cool and smart move.

I played the game for a bit. Was fun at the start, but then it just gets tedious.
The second safe house is where I gave up.
You find a new shelter, you barricade all the windows and you settle down for the night. Then 4 guys simply open the doors and get in to surround you and beat you to death. It's fucking tedious. What the game wanted me to do was to waste 30 minutes of my time to go back to my other hide out and get enough materials to barricade the doors too. You can't block the doors with a cupboard, you can't even lock the doors.

The first safe house was tedious too because there's a hole in the wall that you can't even block. Whatever you put in front of the hole just gets pushed away.
I hate this sort of all or nothing type of game design. You either block everything or you're safe, or you don't block one thing and you're completely unsafe since they'll just go trough there.
A simple ability to lock the doors and force monsters to break the door down would make the game much more enjoyable, even if the door could be kicked in with 3 hits.

You can barricade doors too you know. Also, enemies can only seem to push in, if you pulled the wardrobe in the first safehouse outside to block the hole, I don't think anything could get in. The game also gives you a lot in the way of traps, bear/chain traps are easy to make and you can throw bottles on the ground to make glass traps.

Barricade everything except a single entrance point to funnel enemies in and set up traps there.

I make my way there with as many supplies as I can, I barricade all the windows and one door, and it's completely useless because they can just open doors like it's nothing.

They released on GoG, that means the torrent was instantly available. They know people are torrenting it. By releasing an 'official' torrent it does more good than harm and merits free brownie points.

Random torrent releases can get away with keyloggers and shit because the only thing at stake is their user persona. A developer coming out and having a keylogger during a gesture of good faith would be way more risk for way less reward.

It's all or nothing because you can't have any weak points in the house. If something isn't barricaded they'll just go trough.
You're suggesting that the only real safe way to play is to sit in a single room and barricade all entrances.
That is not a fun way of playing the game.
I like to improvise and work with what I have to keep the entire house as safe as I can. I like to walk around the house and try to see what is outside trough the cracks, I try to light as much of the rooms as I can so I have plenty of space to work with. Barricading myself in a single room sounds fucking boring.
It's all or nothing in the sense if I barricade 90% of the windows and doors, it doesn't matter because that 10% is just a straight up entrance.

What would really fix the game is if you could simply lock the doors and the pushable objects were harder to push. That is all I really want.
Being able to do something like buy more lamps for the house would also be sweet.
