Depends on what gets to you
If jump scares and spooky creepy faces scare you, then imscared will probably do the job
If you want a pants shitting atmosphere where you're just waiting for the next thing that'll fuck you over and you never know when it's coming or what you'll have to do to survive, SCP containment breach will do it
And if you just want something psychologically disturbing that'll keep you up at night, take your pick of silent hill games, or RPG maker indie horror games where omg it turns out it was all a metaphor for the girl being sexually abused I could never have seen this coming
>>
>>388195552
I genuinely think Amnesia: Dark Descent would count, but only if you willingly immerse yourself into the scenario and don't fuck around at all. Soon as you play around even a little bit, the game loses half its worth.

You definitelly wanna play the original Silent Hill games. Here's the handy SH PC Guide + the DL links:

SH1 NTSC DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!bVUCTJzD!PmnPw4S7fWGyvTjw9S0-RQdk7rRp2BQNuXJqRkZCZvk

SH2 DDL:

SH3 torrent:

SH4 DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!Us1XTaII!cglH0dZOaH5yQEm4cnEh3eyUz4bIf6rACQqcVzkb4Hc

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

if you use the NEW widescreen fix mentioned in the guide, you can use sh2proxy's .exe as crack.

in case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.

if SH2 gets stuck into a black screen during launch, close the application and restart it again.
If SH3 runs like shit, check and lower the ingame Rendering Resolution setting.

you can now see fine emulator settings for SH1 in the pic. You can also try the PGXP emu for wobble free PS1 graphics.

>protips
-play in release order
-never play below Normal difficulty

Hey, can someone help me remember this horror game?

It's set in a really dark house with long hallways and lots of corners. There's loads of doors but nearly all of them are locked.
You walk around really slowly in first person with a flashlight that only illuminates 5ft in front of you
Spooky stuff happens, furniture starts moving on its own, doors open/close on their own, and sometimes you catch a glimpse of someone going around a corner but when you check there's no one there.
The story is told through torn-out scattered journal pages.
There's a monster that sometimes appears and chases you. The screen gets all staticky and distorted when it's nearby and a loud, discordant buzzing/shrieking sound plays.
If the monster touches you, it screams in your face and you get a game over.

I dunno about all time but Darkwood has been spooking me lately in the way that it's the actual gameplay that's scary.

>find an underground tunnel in the woods that I want to explore
>pitch black
>trade half my shit for two flares
>explore some narrow walkway for a while
>flares run out, but find a big door just in time
>locked
>start heading back with only a match to light my way
>fumbling through the dark trying to remember the way
>hear screaming from behind be
>start running
>don't look back as shambling chases me through the dark
>can see the light of the exit

I don't see how one could just magically "lose" all that, unless you've been horribly brainwashed, 24/7, ever since.

Just set the mood and your mind right, get rid of distractions and time constraints, play alone, in a dark room, with loud volume (headphones work even better), with game's brightness values set as instructed, and see what happens.

>>
>>388212287
I'm bitter and jaded and willing to nuke anyone born after 1993 at this point, but it hasn't affected my enjoyment of quality vidya, be it new or old, and immersion.

No younger people keep getting more cynical and entitled. They keep increasingly becoming more and more narcissistic. Every generation has its good and bad people but we literally now live in a time where people are actually thinking that faggotry (the real faggotry not meme faggotry) is an acceptable thing.

So fuck younger punks. They are going to be the end of everything once they are old and influential enough to have real effect on this world.

I've had some of my most fun tense moments in that game. I was at the part where your on a substation of sorts and had to activate the power then leave through a door as the substation gets ejected from the main station.

Activate the first switch all is good then the alien shows up. All I had on me where a few noise makers, Like 40 flame rounds and 1 molotov. Spent the flame rounds and trying to haul my ass back to the main station.

Door is on a locked timer have to wait for it to open.

No alien in sight but I can hear it snarling.

See the rotating lights underneath pass by and light up a few feet in front of me every few seconds.

After the fifth rotation I can see the aliens head being illuminated in hte distance.

With every pass he gets closer.

Forgot to mention the whole substation is like psarking and shaking like a small earthquake.

Fucker is 5ft away hissing. Getting ready to leap.

>Come get me you fucker

Throw the last molotov right at his feet while substation is shaking my aim.

Stun him, get away right asthe door finally opens.

Escape.

For now

>>
>>388214596
No I remember being a kid very well and I remember kids then weren't anything near as obnoxiously shit as they are now. It very much is the times we are living in. This is a time of instant gratification and massive self absorption thanks to smart phones and social media. Even this board has became so shit compared to what it was like even just 5 years ago. The problem is because people have busy lives and because of time it just essentially goes by in stealth and people just can't see the changes. I've noticed it because I'm fucking here all day to witness this crap. /v/'s taste in gaming not even much more than 5 years ago was so much less shit. This site wasn't nearly as popular either. That is another thing. The more popular 4chan gets the more shit it gets. This isn't just oldfags being cranky. This is simply truth.

The US PS4 release is the 29th

You guys have to read the Silent Hill plot analysis: https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/437029-silent-hill-2/faqs/36931

Made the games 10x more disturbing for me
>>
We can all agree that any game where you have a gun can't be scary, right?

I have no idea what you're implying, but it got me a bit mad.

Ayysolation was still pretty good because the gun was shit and only used for human encounters which weren't many.

The devs are giving Darkwood away for FREE. Buy it if you like it to support them.

Agreed, it's an awesome game with a great spooky atmosphere.

SCP Containment Breach is overrated as fuck.
SCP-087-B is for REAL men, especially beating it.

>ever made

not ever made for sure, but S.T.A.L.K.E.R., despite its age, will give you good fucking spooks.

Least scary horror game ever. Not to mentioned the game is an overrated hot pile of shit
>>
I'm playing through Observer at the moment and while it is just a walking sim in the sense that basically all you do is walk around and look at things, it's fucking great, very creepy and imaginative with the scares rather than just solely relying on jumps.

Fuck yeah, completely forgot about that game. Was fucking great, too bad I'm a fucking pussy who noped out after running into the first monster in the prison level. Also I never saw or knew about any of the creepy shit in the house but that fucking place still gave me the creeps regardless.
Maybe it's time to grab it again.

What this game does really good is how brutal the combat feels. There is no gore and almost no blood, but fuck me some of those sounds are nasty, especially if you knock their teeth out.

>subway level
>see some hobos fighting eachother
>a woman shoots some dude in the face
>his buddy jumps her and fucking smashes her head with rebar
>disgustig crunch sound, she's down immediately
>several teeth roll up to my feet

The way it just crashes out of nowhere always gives me the shivers

This, I have yet to see another game with combat as brutal as this that isn't comically gory

They nailed the sound effects and weightiness. Swinging your pipe or rebar actually feels like you're swinging a pipe, and the sounds when it cracks against a junkies head is Just orgasmic.
I know VR is pretty meh but condemned with VR ala RE7 would be godly.
>>
Anybody play mirror layers? Not the scariest game out there but the concept was pretty fucking unique with sharing files with other players to make it through the game.

Indeed, it's all in the weight/inertia feeling. Most games feel either like you're an ethereal wraith moving stuff around or an unrealistic unresponsive tank. Condemned is one of the few games that gives the impression of a real bulk body. It makes the combat 10x more violent even with less gore and martial art moves than in other games and when immersed in it you fear for your skin.

No one should be subjected to that kind of torture.
