I'll wait until a tinted clear one comes out. These shells are fucking excellent quality despite being from Aliexpress. I installed some white ones on my Switch's black joy-cons, and they feel just like the original.

The buttons are pretty poorly made, though. They are fine when everything is all put together, but they don't quite fit the shell perfectly, and I had to work on them with a file for a little bit to get them to actually work right. It looks much better in person than my phone's shitty camera makes them look.

Pretty easy, honestly. The left one took about 5 minutes. The right one took about 40 minutes, but that is because there is a lot more stuff to take apart and reassemble, and the screws can't be too tight, or the buttons don't press down quite right. There are a few ribbons to pull out and plug back in, but they aren't very fragile, and you'd have a hard time damaging them. Only one of the ribbons was placed in a way that made it a little frustrating to get plugged back in, but after fumbling around for 5 minutes, I got it. The kit I got on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/BASSTOP-Portable-Replacement-Controller-Electronics/dp/B073VMJNVX/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t) came with a triwing screwdriver and a set of small pliers that made dealing with the ribbons incredibly easy. Well worth the extra $3 over the Aliexpress listing, especially if you have Prime.

Trust me, you can do it. I did it as a project with my 12 year old, and I'm sure he could have done it alone. If you've never done a project with modding electronics before, this is a perfect place to start and gain some confidence. I hope you give it a shot.

It would be really difficult to rip these ribbons. They have plenty of give to them, and they are extremely durable. I think you'd have to purposely try to break them to do any damage. The buttons are literally impossible to break. They are just pieces of plastic that make contact with a certain piece of the board. If you lost one, the kit comes with a full set, so there isn't anything to worry about there.

It kind of threw me off when I was switching the shell on my joy-cons. I thought that there were multiple rumble motors in the controller, because of how it feels in certain games. In Galaga '88, you can feel the vibration move from the top to bottom of your controller when you warp. I was really surprised to see it was just one on the bottom of the controller.
