I mained zerg way back. Now when I play I'm split between terran and protoss. I like playing terran in BGH, I like taking and holding positions with seige tanks and turrets, and controlling the map with MnM. But zealots are the coolest unit in the game, and i love psi storm. So PvZ is my favorite match up, but I guess I like playing terran in general.

I loved making shittons of zerglings and sending them on their merry way to fuck shit up.
Also, mother fucking hydralisk is the best unit in the entire game.

its not actually pathfinding but

1. original when you move units they move in formation and try to retain formation after moved, in sc2 they will always go to the center of the point clicked so they clump up

2. sc2 units could push each other so they never get stuck allowing 1. to be even more effective

sc2 death ball could litearlly be fixed by making units move in formation and disallow units to push each other

zerg in SC2 because they seemed cool and I finally possessed the brain capacity to try to understand mechanics of that race, which are pretty unintuitive coming off of terran and toss. got to low plat in WoL, then dropped the game with HotS.

now zerg in SCR because I liked them. getting my shit pushed in hard.

I love the way Zerg feel and look. Being able to quickly reinforce your troops is great.
I think Terran is a more balanced race with more abilities, but it doesn't feel as comfy. I like how with Terran you can stay on the offensive without having to bend your mind over your opponents unit composition as much.
Playing Protoss is just boring. I want to like it, but I don't.

I kind of dislike how reliant Zerg is on Defilers in BW. I'm currently only learning the ropes so I barely even get to tech to Hive because I have my hands full, but it's pretty frustrating how Terran decimates ling/lurker/muta with just a couple of siege tanks.

I need to get better overall.

In a game yesterday I was up against a MnM combo for quite a long time and I managed to pick off what I would describe as non-negligible number of marines but I neglected teching up in the meantime so my lurkers were late and as soon as siege tanks started hitting my wall, the game was as good as done because I never even got to defilers.

Zerg. Loved the stealth side of the combat. Make the terrans, scan a spot they think you will be coming from and then lure the army over another army. loved it. Protoss and those damn observers got annoying.

Mutas main purpose is to force the terran back defending his base preventing him from bring seige tanks up front. It's why ZvT is the only match up Bio is used in since its the only thing mobile enough that can protect the Terran from Mutas. If his marines are defending his base, then they can't defend his tanks and vice versa.

Proper lurker positioning (and exploiting hold position lurkers) is also very strong since Terran's mobile detection is late game stuff.

Perfect control and pathfinding.

The pathfinding in Brood War is horrible, they set out to make the best RTS of all time by making the best pathfinding of all time.
Turns out that the game falls apart when it starts working correctly.

It really pisses me off that in Starcraft 2 Terrans start with anti-air units. Scans / detection. Can easily wall off. They start out with such a defensive advantage against cheese.

While the other races have to deal with their bullshit from early on. Especially with hellbats and reapers. And those fucking widow mines. And drops.

Bad path finding feels more real. Units sort of push and shove and try to go around each other. In sc2 units turn into a liquid and pour out of ramps. Its weird.

You don't have to shit up the pathfinding to get a fun game. But you absolutely have to change the game in the first place.

A great example is WC3 or modern C&C games. Both of these have flawless pathfinding and both allow for fun gameplay as well as a ton of skill needed to control stuff.

In WC3 it is the retention of selection limit as well as body blocking certain units and other such techniques.

C&Cs have you manage it all with realistic turn rates, reverse moves, directional armor, diagonal speedup, infantry run overs and so on.

Perhaps not as demanding of skill as Brood War but high enough that any "mortal" will have tons to learn without getting bored at the top and certainly more fun than what SC2 offers in this regard.
