If it's the original, Lands and Survivalist are two huge damage dealing classes, the first one can make random battles irrelevant with Tornado and Allslash and the latter deals above thousands of damage with Volley and Triple Shot.

My team back then was Lands, Protector, Survivalist, Medic and Troubadour. You'll definitely want a Protector especially because at late game, they're the only class that can keep you safe from the dragons. I highly recommend Troubadour since their buffs can make a huge difference during battles and they have a TP regen skill that can save your life during those long trips inside dungeons.

Medic trivializes the game with Immunise, reducing the damage you receive to single digits. Still good for heals and ailment removal, those are always necessary.

Definitely the original one. Untold is the 3DS version. I'll say you're quite bold to start at the very first game, but on the other hand you'll grow to appreciate all the quality of life improvements that the series has gotten since the beginning.

I'll say it this way: don't be ashamed of using a guide for skill builds. The original doesn't tell you what skills you need to unlock new ones and Resting (resetting stat points) costs a whooping 10 levels. Let me try to find the guide I used for my builds.

I think Reaper Fencer and Hound would work well together, the Fencer could play eva/counter tank while the reaper debuffs enemy accuracy and also increase ailment/bind rate.
