It's demands less specific tasks from you than in KF1. For example with the Commando, while killing Stalkers still gives you extra exp, just killing enemies in general with Commando specific weapons will give you exp to level up

What are you two even arguing about? When you got level 5 in kf1 you got that perk's baseline weapon. Took you forever to get to 5 depending on the perk (early days of firebug lol) but was well worth it.

I personally liked that you had to get to level 5 in order to start out with the perk's baseline weapon. Delayed gratification at its finest. All those hours spent seeing level 5s get all the money during the first round made getting level 5 so sweet.

Fortunately there are no KF1 Commando-tier grinds. All perks each just have a single XP bar that increases with on-perk (and cross-perk) weapons as well as fulfilling their secondary XP objective, like Commandos killing Stalkers, Support wielding/repairing doors, Sharpshooters getting headshots, or Field Medics healing people.

On top of increasing passive bonuses, every five levels unlocks two skills, you can only have one in each row active but can swap them between waves. Though not the case for all of them, many of them can be feel a bit one-sided.

I dunno, Medic is somewhat functional on either side. Buff darts are great and so is benefitting from them yourself, but when the rest of the team kicks the bucket a lot of those left skills aren't too useful. Poison damage is more or less iffy, but Resilence is a great skill.

That said, Demolition or Firebug might be better examples of having overly-dominant sets of skills.

SG-500 is actually quite competent for what it is
Winchester is a similarly decent gun
Caulk 'n Burn gets a ton of value out of ground fires and starting
HX25 is probably one of the best starting weapons and still good for extra personal defense afterwards
Everyone will carry a medic pistol

AR-15 for Commando has a shitty burst fire mode but does identical damage to the L85A2, M16M203, and Stoner on a per bullet basis

Crovel is definitely inferior to katana in every regard

Practice in solo Burning Paris with the M14 or LAR to get multiple headshots on every trash zed as fast as you can. If you can't score multiple headshots in rapid succession, you'll probably suffer a lot of hits if your team mates can't cover you.

I don't mind how fast KF2 is or how slow KF1, they're two completely seperate games and are fun in their own way. Haven't been playing KF2 much recently since I've been working on my own Killing Floor mod. I'm not that good at coding myself but I've been trying to make a "KF1 to KF2" mod, not sure if anyones interested in it though since most players don't like mods.

I bought it for around ~$40 pre release and it was meh, but thankfully they added a fair amount of content.

SG-500 is a nice weapon for the first two waves to save some money because you can sell the starting one when it's out of ammo and rebuy it to get more than what you would have started with. The Tier 2 Support weapons are great but ammo for the weapons aren't cheap, Trenchgun is fine but the overly wide spread Tight Choke can't fix entirely can sometimes be a hindrance depending on what you want to do.

HX25 is simply for getting weak zeds off you since it doesn't inflict self-damage and blows up at any distance, probably not as needed if someone else can keep zeds off you while you aim for groups or larger zeds. It's also an amusing way of maxing out REU on Gunslinger by headshotting Gorefiends.

True, it chokes on mediums (which other perks would handle better) but it's still enough to kill Crawlers in one body shot on HoE. Depending on the player count it's still relatively usable for the second wave, just not like the others.

I find the wide spread on the trench is pretty great. It makes it very easy to kill multiple zeds with one shot.

With the HX25 I have a strategy of skipping that weapon by just going round 1 as a SWAT or something, and getting the nade launcher on round 2. The mp7 makes for a much better personal defence weapon than the hx; fast to equip, fast to reload, good fire rate.
