Breath of the Wild doesn't feel like Zelda anymore. It's fine as an exploration heavy collectathon with light dungeon delving and all but I am not a fan of the item economy it introduced at all. It feels antithetical to the original games.

Just started playing WW after playing BotW for my first Zelda game. Man it's fun, it also looks fucking great. How closely should I be following the main storyline? I keep trying to explore the sea but my fucking boat says I have to go the waypoint.

It's a continuation from OoT in the branch were Ganondorf is sealed in the Sacred Realm.

As for exploration once you get of of Dragon Roost Island the game opens up but I'd advise saving some exploration towards the end since you'll be covering the majority of the Great Sea during that time but don't put it off entirely as there are a lot of good things you can find early on.

Wind Waker has the worst combat, bosses, dungeons and puzzles in the entire series. It does however have pretty good overworld so it's above Skyward Sword.

To the people who say WW's combat is the worst in the series, is it just because of difficulty?

It's clearly the easiest, but going back to OOT and MM, the combat for those feel a lot less fluid. Maybe they're fixed in the remakes, but I always liked WW and TP's similar, and snappy combat.

I have a love hate relationship with Wind Waker

Links expressiveness, the humor of the game, the locales and plot crescendos are all up there with the other best in series

But there are some major flaws as well the combats could use a bit of polish, they could use an extra music track or two while sailing, they solved the sailing speed issue in HD version thank Hylia. But they didn't do anything to ease the unforgivable triforce sea chart slog that kills all sense of progression or adventure
And I know convoluted fetch quests are staple of Zelda bit there is a stark difference between go fetch 3 jewels of plot to unlock majority of game, and go fetch 8 maps, now gimme all your money, and now go fetch 8 more magical doodads so you can see the ending

Its like if capcom added a free method to see the true ending to Asuras Wrath, but in order to do so you had to play patty cake for two full houra

i don't even remember the mini dungeon/goron games at all. Probably because the base game was just so bad i just wanted it over with as soon as possible. The biggest problems ST has are Train/Flute/TAP2WIN. It's not a fun experience at all and i don't see what the minority even like in it.

LttP provided the actual structure that all future Zelda games used in some way, showed that you can make proper secrets for the player to find without going full retard, had wonderful music that carried on into later titles, showed that Zelda storylines and characters could be a bit more complex than previously shown, and more.
