Did your parents restrict you from playing certain video games?
>>
>>388149492
not until some fucking nerd at toys r us told them about the ESRB. i wish i remembered what he looked like, so i could keep my eye out for him and knock him out if i ever see him. i missed out on a lot of games because of that little twerp.
>>
No because I'm not from some backwater town in willacoochie Alabama.
>>
>>388149492
Yeah but I saved money had people buy them and played them in secret. Parent quit caring when I got in middle school.
>>
>>388149492
My mother tried but unfortunately I was the youngest of 5 brothers with a 12 year gap from youngest to oldest so she gave up on it cause she cared more about us spending time together then she did about how a game might allegedly influence my behavior.
>>
>>388149492
No but they should have, kids shouldn't be playing M games, especially anything with online.
>>
>>388149492
Up until I was about 10 or 11. Bro uncle put doom on the family pc and I would sneak down at night to play

the only game my parents said I couldn't play was San Andreas
>>
>>388149492
No. I clearly understood the difference between fantasy and reality from a young age because my parents spent time with me and read to me.

Sounds like your parents weren't hard enough on you, you little delinquent.
>>
Only games with particularly adult themes like GTA. I didn't like it, but looking back it wouldn't have been appropriate to let a kid play stuff like that.

I wasnt allowed to play Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding because of the blood dribs.
>>
My mom tried to restrict us from playing fighting games when we were younger. Didn't last long because my dad didn't back her up and we just ended up doing what we wanted to anyways. I remember him sneaking us a copy of DOA2 for the Dreamcast that I kept hidden from my mom. Some of my first memories are fapping to the jewel insert of Kasumi and her huge tits.

>tfw my parents always tried to set "rules"
>never followed them
>ended up learning that adults don't stick to their word and becoming an adult whose word doesn't mean anything because I never stick to it
>tfw just now learning to say what I mean and mean what I say even if I change my mind of stop giving a fuck after saying it
>>
>>388149492
As long as I kept making A's in school they didn't care what I did in my spare time.
>>
no

mainly because i was 16/17 years old when the ratings started to appear on vidya cases

That's wicked sick child abuse, bruh.
>>
>>388149492
No, but I lived with my grandparents. I watched lots of war documentaries with my grandpa, and like old westerns. One of the first M games I got was COD Big Red One. Gramps thought it was pretty neat and would occasionally watch me play
>>
>parents didn't allow me to even play T rated games when I was a kid
>went over to friends houses and just played T/M rated games anyway
>>

Wasn't Big Red One a T?

My mom didn't understand how the ESRB worked even though it's practically 1:1 to the MPAA shit, so no.
"What does M mean?"
"It's, uh, the rating in the middle"

As the oldest of four brothers she would ask me if a game was appropriate for my little bros; so I lied for them about 99% of the time.
>>
Nope, I played Duke 3D when I was like 7, played shit like Leisure Suit Larry, Soldier of Fortune, Postal while still in elementary school. They never supervised me. My older sister tried being a snitch countless times thinking it's gonna earn her some good girl points, backfired in her face every time. While I was in the 8th grade, she deleted my porn collection and she's the one who got in trouble for it. Listened to Eminem in middle school while browsing Newgrounds. Listened to edgy death and black metal all the time as well in my early teens (I still like extreme metal, but I mostly listen to doom now).

For orthodox christian parents, they were weirdly uncaring what I did on my computer.
>>
>>388150880
Fucking hell, and I thought I was too old to be here. That makes you almost 40, since I was 9 when the ESRB was invented.
>>
>>388152552
It's not their problem if you go to hell desu
>>
>that kid who wasn't allowed to play Pokemon because it "taught evolution."
>>
>>388153112
We always had an extra gameboy to toss him so he could kinda fit in during sleep overs, but he still got destroyed with banter.
>>
>>388149492
Only ever GTA, and that was because of the rep it had.

anything else was fair game
>>
>>388149492
>go to buy the sims with my mom because it looks neat
>she looks at the rating and notices reference to adult themes or something
>asks the guy at EB games
>he tells her the covers move around, hearts come out, and stereotypical 'sexy' growling noises are made, nothing remotely as bad as what you get in movies or television
>she thanks him for how specific he was and i flash the guy a thumbs up
>my mother plays the sims 1 for a solid decade, putting a hundred hours in, fucking around with cheats for a hundred hours, getting a new expansion and repeating the process every time
>>

Only two games they have not let me play, the first was Diablo and the second was a browser game (pic related) because my mom heard about a virus named kraken and thought that this game is the virus
>>
>>388149492
I had a GameCube. The entire console was a restriction. Don't tell my parents I played Hunter: The Reckoning
>>
>Postal 2 is banned in Sweden
>It has a shit ton of coverage in the media
>Dad says "I'm fine with any game, but being able to hack people's heads off with a shovel and piss on their dead body is just too macabre."

>dosen't heed his warning
>one day pirate the game, pour gasoline all over the bank
>just lights the shit on fire
>mom calls me downstairs for something
>come back up
>dad is standing over the PC just shaking his head

And that's how i didnt get to play video games for a few weeks.
>>
>>388150048
Same here, except parents didn't stop caring until high school.
>>
Yes. I was not allowed any M game, but I was allowed T before I was 13.
>>
>>388149492
No, but I got the neighbor kid grounded for a few weeks after they found out we played Halo at my place. The next time he came over I dialed it down to Animal Crossing, which got him grounded again because apparently the animals were too rude. The next time I just said fuck it and had him play San Andreas because it was clear at this point that I was dealing with ultra religious freaks and their teenage children were being sheltered to a dangerous degree.

The next I had heard, they had sent both of their sons off to military school and moved to South Africa.

My mom broke and threw out my copy of FF7 when she found out there was cussing in it. I pulled a few drug deals to get another copy and just played in the middle of the night. The fucked up part was when she found out my stepdad had been playing it too so they got another copy so he could keep playing. She lost her fucking mind when she found out my dad bought me Diablo 2 for my birthday. Sucks for her because I was out of country.
>>
Nope. Same with films. I don't know anything about kids so this opinion is worthless but I see absolutely no reason to shelter little kids from anything. I always mock my friend for letting his kids play GTA but not letting them watch Bottom, seems absurd and a little hypocritical.
>>
>>388149492
No but they probably should have letting children or adults for that matter have what they want when they want will lead to spoiled entitled shit heads.
>>
>>388149492
>I'm playing as a cop mom, I'm supposed to throw a katana into this bad guy!
>>
>>388149492
mom didnt even letzten me play some snes game with crash test dummys which actually was just a plattformer cuz the character lost limbs as a health system

played silent hill and resident evil at friend anyway
>>
>>388149492
yeah, they didnt want me playing GTA because of the sex and drugs, but didnt give a shit about any violence so pretty much any other game was free
>>
My parents refused to buy me the more violent games up until middle school. They were also the type to think that Yu Gi Oh was satanic. When I entered high school, Halo 2 had come out that year and I had to beg my parents and thankfully after that point they stopped censoring me. Then I got a little part time work and bought any game I wanted.
>>
>>388149492
no, because my parents taught me that video games aren't real and I shouldn't even attempt to imitate them in real life. Instead of being a stupid fucking kid, I listened to them and had no problem playing GTA III when I was fucking 8 years old.

If he has even a modicum of intelligence he'll learn to keep his mouth shut and stay under the radar until one day his neighbors will be on tv saying 'he was pleasant enough, he kept himself to himself, we had no idea he was up to something so heinous.'
>>
They probably would have if I wanted to play any of them. The only bloody games I cared about as a kid were Primal Rage and Mortal Kombat.
>>
>>388164892
Thats the thing, i think he's just a dumbass trying to pass off as a psycho but might be stupid enough to try something like kill/hurt someone
>>
>>388149492
My mother didn't want me playing 'violent' games. Of any kind.

She was a little crazy. We indulged her in public, she didn't know shit about games or computers.

My dad didn't think FPS games had any merit whatsoever and made no effort to abet me getting any of those. He didn't really care enough to prohibit it though, but "won't help you get them" stops an underageb& pretty short.
>>
I wasn't allowed to watch Beavis and Butthead, but I could play resident evil and silent hill. no problem.

That being said, I remember letting my 6 year old little brother play Soul Reaver on Playstation.
When he impaled his first duma vampire and it started writing and growling as it died, I could feel protective instincts kicking in, but I kept letting him play it. He turned out fine.
>>
Remember when i was like 4 years old watching my dad play Vice city, better times
>>
>>388149492
I grew up playing strategy games like empire earth and civ 4 and never had a drive to play any violent hands
so I guess I censored myself
>>
>>388149492
I wasn't allowed to play games over the T rating before I was 16. I didn't really mind, because even now most of the best games are rated T anyway.
>>
My mom wouldn't allow pornographic shit but apart from that no. And by pornographic I mean actual pornographic, my dad gave me a copy of Leisure Suit Larry as an 8 year old and she had no problem with it. She actually thought it was funny.

My parents were pretty cool about what media I was exposed to. While all my friends were watching "family" movies because that's all their parents would allow my dad would insist I watch things like Die Hard and Evil Dead 2 and would make sure they were the uncut versions. This sort of shit did get him in trouble sometimes though. Apparently when she was 10 my older sister once had a slumber party and he insisted they all watch A Nightmare on Elm St. There was a lot of pissed off parents the next day.
>>
>>388149492
Is everyone just gonna ignore how disgusting the OP image is?
>>
>>388149492
Yeah, couldn't play M rated until I was 17, but I managed to convince them to let me play Halo (since it was about not shooting humans) but my dad made me play with him watching before approving. It was a bummer especially when all my friends on XBL were getting into other games. Ended up making friends who were only into Halo.
>>
I was playing duke nukem 3d, shadow warrior, doom 1 and 2, and quake 2 and 2 from when i was 6 all through elementry school. Was tight, played it with my dad and grandpa
>>
>>388149492
My mom wouldn't even consider getting me a T rated game until I was 13, and was very uncomfortable getting M rated games until I was like 17
>>
>>388149492
No. Instead they talked to me about tje differences between fantasy and reality. Then about a minute into the talk they realized I was already aware of that and never brought it up again.
>>
>>388149492

I didn't act like a faggot when I was a kid, and I also didn't want any game unless it seemed fun. So I didn't want to get into GTA just because it was so adult at the time like most kids did. I actually still kind of dislike the games. Just not my kind of thing. But anytime I wanted a game that happened to be M it was no problem. If my kid were running around screaming about how cool they are for it, like I see happen sometimes, no I wouldn't allow it. But otherwise its cool.
