how does /v/ feel about Luck vs. Skill within your games?
>>
Skill should be the only thing that determines a win or a loss. Luck should only affect the environment a player plays in, but the player should never lose control of his own fate.
>>
70% skill, 30% being able to deal with RNG.

>player should never lose control of his own fate
A player is always in control of his fate. Only the weak rage in foolish impotence against the dice when it was their foolishness that put them in a place where a dice roll could doom them.

Tell me more about Armello
>>
>>388144109
It's a board game to play with friends.
It's not nuXCOM pretending to be a thinking mans game.

If you can't handle CHANCE TIME then why even play boardgames.
>>
>>388144591
If a roll of the dice can be avoided through any means then that player is obligated to avoid that roll. If the design of the scenario requires the dice roll no matter what decisions the player made beforehand then that fate was always determined by luck and therefore control was never fully in the hands of the player.

>that player is obligated to avoid that roll
Unless you know that a bad roll will be a minor inconvenience or a huge win, then your best strategy is to roll.

>hurr durr, Armello has too much RNG!
Then how come there are people with 90% winrate? They grinded Luck stat?
>>
>>388144998
I would if they did not cram in lootboxes and microtransactions.
What they think they are? EA?
>>
>>388145224
>What they think they are?
Valve, Blizzard, Ubisoft, Rockstar, 2K...

Who the fuck doesn't have a crate economy in their game these days?
>>
Minor forms of luck are present in every game with the exception of maybe fighting. Board games use luck to effectively have more meaningful events with large swings of odds. Armello is pretty good but in its current state, it feels like there are too many things to accomplish in order to win in too short of a time. It's a ridiculous sentiment considering how long rounds are but it's a little silly when a person can just win the test to get into the palace considering you may have spent an hour completing quests to do the same thing. In order to reliably when with as few hiccups as little RNG as possible one must:
>Do 4 quests on different sides of the map.
>Gather 4 soul stones.
>Make it to the castle with several turns to spare.
>Prevent others from doing any of the aforementioned things.
It's just alot of stuff to do any way you swing it without even considering the rare as fuck rot victory and the time out prestige victory. If the game was faster, people could stomach more turns so hopefully it fixes things a little but the standard feels like one set back is enough to ruin your chances indefinitely compared to something like talisman or even 100% Orange Juice.
>>
>>388145357
a bad thing doesnt turn into a good one just because more people are doing you absolute loon
>>
>>388145156
If the negative consequences of luck aren't enough to alter the behavior of the player then there was hardly a reason for the roll to exist in the first place.
>>

Card games or game with card elements in them are shit BY DESIGN and should be boycotted.
They're designed to give a shitty hand and you need to buy decks and boxes in order to get an advantage, purposedly making you spend more time in acquiring the means to rig the RNG than actually playing.
Arena FPS, RTS and Fighting Genre uber alles.

I love this game. Wish it was on the Switch. Would be a perfect fit.
>>
>>388144109
I was going to get this game, but then they decided to add microtransactions. Fuck that noise.
>>
>>388144951
This. It's like those idiots on the steam forums trying to make 100% Orange Juice competitively balanced.

Play it from time to time with your friends. Don't take it anymore serious than that.

Look, Armello is a game of freedom. You're free to be a dumbshit and stack dice rolls then complain when you roll fifteen ones in a row, happened to me. Or you could git gud and equip gear that delivers certain results so that getting bad rolls is not a total disaster.

Freedom. That's what scares away the casual. The freedom to succeed means that defeat is your own fault.

I wasn't talking about a specific video game. I was talking about video game design. The less control you give a player the less like a video game it becomes. The less fulfilling that game becomes. If you win or lose a game of chance it's not truly exciting or depressing because you can always take the wind out of it; "it was out of my control". When everything is a direct result of your own actions, reactions, and skill you know that when you win you actually won, and when you lose you actually lost.

Normality is literally a social construct. Whatever the majority does is good, unless you're some edgy authoritarian bastard.

Dice rolls in single player games are fine, I'll allow it.

Armello is a card game. No cards are being sold. Only shiny dices. These dices are only shiny, they don't have stats.

I love how no one can agree on who the op character is. People used to bitch endlessly about Ghor. Then Magna. Twiss and Scarlett. Sylas is casual bait true but this is the first time I've heard the seer called op. At least Horace will NEVER be accused of being op :(.
