What do I need to know before starting these games?

Turn off hints if you don't want the game highlighting where to go. Missile and energy pickups count towards scan completion in Prime 1 if you care about scans. That's about it, go play them.

Turn off hints, play on hard. Supposedly the Wii version's hard is Gamecube's normal. Someone needs to confirm that for me, but I only played the Wii ones and normal mode was piss easy, never died once in Prime 1, died a good bit in every other Metroid.

It was fun anyway, figuring out where to go and unlocking new areas, which is the main point of Metroid. But would have been even nicer if I was ever below 50% health at any point.

You can get some bonus stuff like a Mii Bobblehead in your cockpit
