Do you prefer physical or digital?
>>
>>388139819
Physical. I don't own any digital games unless they're digital only.
>>
Physical
>>
>>388139819
Physical, always have, always will. I like having a collection that builds up and I take care of my games so there's no risk of them being damaged
>>
>>388139819
I buy physical games, movies, anime, and CDs. Only get digital games if it's digital only or PC.
>>
>>388139819
Depends. A game I don't like or don't like enough to want to play through it again I'd rather have physical so I can sell it off for pennies. Digital is good for multiplayer games that don't have a gorillion sequels
>>
>>388139819
Digital. I ran out of space for physical vidya a long time ago.
>>
>>388140064
>physical anime

Enjoy spending 50 bucks for 12 episodes in a cheap blu ray case on 2 cheap discs. Modern anime collecting is so dumb, it's always been expensive but during the DVD days you would get so much shit.
>>
>>388140240

Physical for games release last gen or before.

This time i'm going all digital because it is much cheaper in my case.

i haven't bought a physical game for my ps4 since release.
>>
>>388140240
You can literally get Lain and FLCL complete series for around 20 bucks. Even NHK is 20. You just have to wait for prices to dip.

American anime buying only really affects shonenshit.

Many also have Japn sub and paying for them gives a fraction of money straight to the studios.
>>
>>388139819

Always physical. Buying digital is a last resort (e.g. Sonic Mania)
>>
>>388140737
A fraction of the profit for an already niche, dying product. I can guarantee paid streaming sites support these studios far more than physical releases.
>>
>>388139819
Whichever is cheaper at the time. I don't mind either and don't place heavy stress on one over the other. Generally, physical for console and digital for PC/3DS. I like physical, but I don't ever resell my games or systems, so that's not a reason for me.
>>
>>388139819
digital.

Only luddite cucks insist on physical. Im also 33 and find it laughable that underage shitters think they are making themselves more legit by keeping a collection of 600 game boxes that just wastes shitloads of space.

to be fair i only getting digital games because i pay for PS+ and here in brazil it is like 25 to 30 dollars a year.

I get the investment back in like 3 pn store purchases and the ((((((((((free)))))))))) games help me save even more, i also ahve a ps3 and a vita so i have no shortage of games. I still plan on getting more physical ps3 games though, shit lie catherine is hard to find.

I go with the physical option whenever possible.
The Switch is the only current-gen console where you don't have to install the games regardless since they aren't on slow-reading discs, so it's even easier to come to that descision.
>>

>>
I was always a physical collector but recently I started to wonder what I'm doing by accumulating so much shit, like I was beginning to think my collection defined me. I thought that wasn't healthy, and would be heartbreaking if my collection was destroyed/lost/stolen, so I sold everything off and replaced anything super replayable digitally.

I kept a handful of physical retro games I couldn't get remakes/rereleases/quality emulation for but its like 15 titles.

On a side note, my huge collection was also starting to trap me. Instead of playing a fun game I would play something from my backlog that I felt a duty to complete, even if I wasn't having much fun. Seeing the credits brought me no joy, really, just lightened the load slightly. That was the hardest part of selling my stuff, getting rid of my backlog, but it felt very freeing when I finally did it. Now I'm just playing games for fun at the moment.

There currently aren't any games that do that.
The only upcoming one that seems to be doing that is the Resident Evil Revelations Collection, where one game is on the cart and one is a code, like FFX and X2 on Vita.
>>
>>388141858

how do you have more ps4 games than ps2? what even is worth on ps4 outside of 6 or 7 games?
>>
>>388141937
The dude literally only has 8 ps2 games, I dont think he has really explored the library all that much
>>
>>388141937
I sold my entire PS2 collection about 11 years ago (Rest in peace Shadow Hearts series). What I have right now are some stragglers left behind from the exodus and recent pickups I found for cheap in-person like Drakengard 1 + 2 and Dark Cloud.

PS4 is a mix of indies/LRG/heavy-hitters/and mostly Japanese games so it adds up. So, a good deal of multiplats, which is no problem for me because I still consider them games.

Digital, because that means less mess. I consider the downside of digital a plus. Yeah, maybe one day Steam will no longer allow me to download my games. But I don't plan on caring so much about muh games collection that this will devastate me. I play all of these games as an adult, and I'm fine with that, but when I'm not doing that, I'm not thinking about my games, or posting pictures of my collection.

This shit scares me. that people want to buy digital on console. Comapnies drop support for they online so fast this days it'll make your head spin. so after the consoles life cycle. how long do you have? this pushes large companies to go down the "games as a service rout".

It may be slighlty cheaper and more conveniant now but your fucking us all in the long run.

I'm one of those "games are art" faggots and am perpetually worried about shitty copyright laws and corporate jewry making games unavailable. What's the best way to archive games and mods and shit? I have external hard drives but I don't have enough total space to have a game copied to more than one hard drive, so if one fails a huge portion of my library goes with it.

do you mean like steam has been doing since fucking ever?

Companies will go on that route one way or another since selling digital is way more profitable to them and they will keep going on that route until every console is digital only.

If they ever drop support i can just mod whatever console i have to play pirated games on it or emulate the games when said emulator are somewhat stable.

A can buy digital games for 1/5 to 18 of the price of a used game in my region so i really don't mind. I only ever get physical copies of gen 7 7 and before that because they look cool and come with manuals.

Also as >>388145306 said, games from current gem are basically activation keys and most of the game is downloadable anyways.
>>
I was all about physical until I had to pack and move and unpack all my games only to have to pack and move and unpack them about a year later only to have them pack and move and stay in storage because fuck this shit im not 13 years old anymore
>>
>>388139959
Yeah I almost do that but having fighting games for some arcade action feels great, also digital are always at sale and I have ps+
>>
>own my own house
>keep games stored neatly in dressers and filing cabinets in closets, instead of out on shelves or in stacks everywhere, like some gross 14-year-old/autistic manchild adult
>no clutter, nothing in the way, not taking up any space that was needed for anything essential

I laugh every time I see the space argument. It reeks of poor/living in some third world country where people are crammed into sardine can apartments like human cattle. It's amazing how little space a properly stored game collection actually takes up, even with boxes.

Can we all agree that people who insist on physical but then throw away everything but the disc/cart are the worst scum of all?
>>
>>388145417
>Companies will go on that route one way or another since selling digital is way more profitable to them and they will keep going on that route until every console is digital only.

You're right. Companies go where the profits is. And if less and less ppl feed console digital only then we won't end up with the inevitable digital only console.

>A can buy digital games for 1/5 to 18 of the price of a used game in my region so I really don't mind.

If you are the Brazil anon. It's fully understandable. My real issue lies with ppl in the US and other 1st world countries doing this shit purely out of convenience.

>do you mean like steam has been doing since fucking ever?

Consoles are notorious for stopping online services at the drop of a hat. Steam has been going over 10 years now. It's not great but better then hoping Sony won't shut down the online for your now dead console. (I'm looking at you Yakuza 5)

Why not just stop playing video games if you're such a grown up then? Surely your busy schedule could lead to a reward greater than sitting your ass and controlling characters designed for 13 years old kids?
>>
>>388146870

I meant that I didn't feel the need or compulsion to show off my collection like I did when I was 13. Gaming doesn't define me anymore, it's just a hobby that I have less and less time for as I grow older.

FWIW, I did the same thing with my DVD/Blu-Ray collection after moving all that shit a few times.

Maybe once you leave your moms basement you'll understand what a pain in the ass it is to move hundreds upon hundreds of individual cases, but that probably wont be till you're well into your 50s so you've got what, like 40 years ahead to plan?
>>
>>388147469
I own a house, but thanks for the advise anyway. Have plenty of room for all sorts of shit and I pay my shit in due time so I'm not forced out every year.
>>
I prefer digital, on the condition that it's not tied to any DRM. This way I can always make a backup copy easily and never risk the disk or USB drive dying on me, since I can transfer it to another computer. Stuff with DRM is pretty garbage, since you're reliant on a company to not screw you over.

Digital is for quick convenience, but it is not timeless, and it shows its ugly head with the passing years.

>This year
>GAME comes out
>Its well loved and liked, and its MSRP is $60 both digital and physical
>$60 physical for a case and disc with offloaded memory
>$60 flat digital for just the game with more memory downloaded and takes up infinitely more space.
>Pretty even between the two

Now: Three Years pass

GAME: is old, and is now $35.99 in stores in physical condition. But Digital its STILL $59.99 No matter how many years pass it will always be this flat price, meaning the market can never change and adapt, which makes older titles that much harder to come by.

So I'm supposed to wait for the arbitrary incrememnt chosen by market share to cut the price on an item I want? Thats not how consumerism works.
>Humble bundle
A charity galal giving away left over premotional codes? That bottom of the barrel dumpster diving.

Because you're looking at modern day titles genius. If you even read my post I said "As time passes. Example: Sam and Max, Currently $19.99 on steam, physical disc sealed? $5. If even. But please, go ahead and defend corporate markup. You're an imature brat as evidenced by your lack of capitalization, punctuation and use of "lol"

Not bad, although personally I've never been a fan of those ugly plastic custom cases for old games. They look like the video game rental cases that gas stations used 20 years ago.

Christ I feel old just thinking about how gas stations used to rent games and movies.

You didn't say that you dumb fuck. You said "this year, game comes out, its 60$, pretty even between the two. three years pass game is old, physical is 36$, digital is still full price

But here's the thing old man, that's not how it works. Are there some games that keep those same digital values? Yes. But an overwhelming majority of them go cheap within 6 months.

Meanwhile, lets take a look at what Nintendo is doing, shall we? What's that? Mario Kart DS, not 3DS mind you, but the DS game from fucking 2005 is still selling for a physical retail of $29.99

Hey look, I can cherry pick examples too in an attempt to be right on the internet!

And I even did it with proper punctuation, capitalization and without throwing in any words like 'lol'.

You're a fucking clown bro, that's all there is too it. You bought into this idea that you need the physical copies of these games because the boogyman might take away your digital copies. You bought into this idea that you need to be proud and show off games from 20 years ago that aren't even rare or worth anything. If they're collectors items or super valuable you might have a reason to show them off. But you're making my laugh my ass off showing your Baldurs Gate 1 and Grim Fandango boxes off like some stuck-in-his-preteens man-child.

I love the conveniences of digital, and I like keeping my space mostly minimal so digital is perfect.

However I don’t have the money to get burnt on a game I dislike or never end up playing so digital isn’t ideal anymore.

What I’ve started doing is I have the 1 game out subscription to GameFly to play games that I want to play through once but not keep. Digital for games that I know I will always want to keep. Physical for games in between the two or for games That are multiplayer centric.

Like me and my friends always play the call of duty multiplayer as a few of them don’t really have time for any games but COD and FIFA. I’m gonna buy that physically because I’ll need it for an extended period of time but not necessarily keep forever.
>>
>>388139819
I like physical mainly because I live out in bumfuck egypt and the internet is datacapped to shit

I'll probably kill myself soon because a lot of games are going physical/digital, as in they're only putting like half of the game or less on discs and forcing you to download the rest online.
>>
>>388139819
If i lived in a first world country, i would prefer physical.
But as i don't, digital it is due physical having an absurd tax on it, and the risk of physically losing all my games is higher than the risk of steam pulling away their servers etc..
>>
>>388156383

I will never get the "space" issue with you fags, Even the most common book case from ikea is able to hold 100+ games if stacked and organized efficiently. If you're so insecure about having one measley bookcase worth of games you shouldn't be collecting them in the first place.

>>388155746

I think the people that classify themselves as a collector are bad. I wouldn't call myself a collector but I just do happen to have a large collection of games. Mainly because pawn shops and thrift stores make games dirt cheap nowadays.

Other way around bro, if you want an efficient way to play games and save room then there's a perfectly free thing called piracy and emulation. If you're the type that wants to own little pieces of gaming history and have the full experience of cracking open a case, checking out the manual and popping the game into the console or maybe just a display piece for a game room then you get the full set. Disregarding that I feel like you've never met actual packrats and hoarders.

Come on man, I own a mostly digital PC library too but the old big box PC game market has jumped hugely in recent years and both your examples go for 50 bux min if not up to 100. Are we talking about the same thing here? PC emulation for a lot of old consoles is perfect or near perfect and as someone who has a large physical collection even I know I'm just throwing money away for the sake of recapturing an original experience. If we're talking N64 and on it's a different story though.
