Just set it to easy for that level.

1st thief has way too many zombies. theres a level later thats full of zombies/ghosts/skeleton soldiers and you dont have enough holy water to kill them all. and you have to do the level twice. it sucks
thief 2 is better, i'm playing through it right now. almost no zombies/skeleton soldiers and the encounters are optional paths/secrets. that necromancer book surprise was bullshit, made me jump

Thief 1 is a sneak game with spooky tomb raidan adventure elements. Thief 2 is pretty much your pure sneakan simulator.

I prefer the first, but took a replay after the sequel for me to really appreciate it.

it's kind of playable if you can tolerate dumbed down consloe games like the new xcom

Just wait until you do "Return to the Cathedral".
Stock up on Holy Water and Flash Bombs. Or, just get Speed Potions and run past everything. Burricks (the small dinosaur looking guys) are slow as hell.
