blizzard and bethesda are known for their aggressive viral marketing. when OW first came out it was not uncommon to see multiple threads with the same stock images posted side by side, usually voicing some basic irrelevant opinion like "so and so is OP" but always using different wording. They would even go through one character spamfest every week or so. They have professional marketing teams who are savvy enough to know that spamming /v/ will lead to the hivemind opinion of OW being fun and amazing due to opinion osmosis. And they are fairly good at blending in.

Randy from Gearbox has shallowly attempted to stir up Battleborn debate/comparisons here on /v/ to make Overwatch look bad, at least a few times. But he didn't do anywhere near as good a job.

Bethesda (or more likely Zenimax itself) absolutely control/regulate public opinion of their products as much as they can. They are very devious, I would say they are definitely much more dishonest and deceitful about marketing their shit, and often they rely on their fanbase all having conflicting information so that detractors and defenders alike will buy it to confirm things even if they aren't part of the easier-to-fool HYPE crowd. It's undoubtedly a Zenimax decision for example, to just say "no more early review copies" because a few times, word of mouth has spread before a game came out. They used id's talent displayed in Doom2016 to justify that first impressions aren't good for business.
