In gen 1 this thing is OP though

Isn't that only when you stack it with Toxic? Which is hilariously busted and guarantees a kill on anything in ~3 turns while also fully restoring HP. Venusaur is probably the best Gen 1 starter because of that combo.

I think it was still super effective against gengar, just that the ghost resist didn't cancel out the super effective, similar to fire against water/ice..

Grass team in gen1 is pretty based, Exeggcutor, Victreebel/Vileplume and Venusaur will sleep/solar beam/leech seed/paralize/poison the fuck out of the opponent. they're all bulky as fuck too and can handle super effective attacks.

Venusaur is great, but that combo is ridiculously impractical and really only good against snorlax or chansey, and even then only if its their last pokemon. Switching out causes toxic to reset to normal poison damage permanently

The only starters that are nearly as good are Greninja (fuck Greninja) and Mega Blaziken. The Zards aren't as good in single player thanks to Flare Blitz wearing down X far too quickly and Y is not nearly as good as a sweeper, and in multiplayer it depends on the meta. In OU Zard Y is the second best starter, but only thanks to Dugtrio.
