The second one was a direct improvement adding tons of new weapons and actually making a mall that had shit to do in it.
The third expanded the map even more to a town filled with shit to do, and added vehicles that were actually fun to use
if you honestly think the second or third game are not almost as great as the first, then you are simply a nostalgia baby crying because they did new shit with the series

Series, idk. Original game, was pretty much groundbreaking at the time. I'm replaying it now on PC, and it's still pretty good. The follower AI isnt as bad as I remember, though the clock does certainly compound their stupidity. Also I can't get to Isabella at midnight and save the girls from the fat cop and save the two hanging from the giant cartoon thing AND save the antique shop guy two girls and the sniper psychos... Fuck

I don't know about 3, but before I went into DR threads on /v/ I thought it was generally agreed that 2 is better than 1. I always cite it as a game where the sequel is better in almost every way

I have a few things to say about it
I played 2 many years ago and just didnt get it thought it was just ok at best
But with the release of 4 and the large discussion that it generated if made me hear some good points about the series
Then literally 2 weeks ago i went back and played 1 and i freaking loved it,i am just waiting to come back home to start playing 2 again with my new found admiration for the series
You see i took the game for a crazy zombie kill fest that the internet and future games made it to be that i overlook the real good parts of the game,the tense 10/10 gameplay of time management,the variation,the freedom,the fact that the game actually rewards smart playing and being knowledgeable about the game and the fact that it cant be actually be pretty challenging made me love it.
When i beat 1 literally did the last cases on my feet because i had fucked up and left almost no time and saved i was so scared of fucking up and losing all progress toward the true ending that i couldnt even look at the clock.

time limits in singleplayer games are pure cancer, particularly when there's no autosaving only manual save, so you can lose 2 hours of progress because of some stupid shit

they only got worse as they went on, idk why they kept making them

Great idea, mediocre execution. There are moments in the first 2 games where they show signs of brilliance, but some dumb design choice always gets in the way. The games don't know what they want to be, and other times they just make incredibly stupid decisions.

Case Zero is the best one. The map is small enough that trekking across it isn't painfully boring.

The first game was basically an expression of a fantasy that gamers had been clamouring for a while, a lot of zombies, a lot of weapons, and a lot of interactions between the two. with a "zombie movie through an anime lens" style to it. it's very memorable.

The second had the same formula but moved to a new studio. it had orignal team members helping make so it somewhat retained it's stylised feel, combo weapons were a good idea but poorly executed. The enviroment is arguably better than the first game, with more variety. Survivor AI was massively improved here too.

Third game was a step down entirely. difficulty was nonexistant. bossfights were uninspired and the bosses themselves were incredibly uncreative (Seven sins has been done to death). The weapon crafting system was a lot better though. But the amount of "wacky" weapons dragged down. the tone was alll over the place, and not in a good way.

Never played four, but saw some gameplay videos and it's like a totally different series with a dead rising label slapped on.

4 wasn't.

1 & 2/OTR are great, but OTR was definitely the start of the end: it was extremely easy, time limit might as well be nonexistent, Frank is a one-line spewing action hero(I did like the idea of him being a fat, washed up cunt but Case West did it better), & the story was over-the-top retarded. Haven't played 3 or 4 but honestly don't wanna, my favorite parts of 1 & 2/OTR were the environments, I liked how they weren't just generic open-world cities

I loved the first one years ago, got the sequel the day it came out and like it as well, it was an expansion of the first one.

The biggest flaw of dr1 was the path finding, stupid survivors will get stuck on stairs, specially with huge groups. In DR2 I never had that problem

But seeing videos of 3... I don't know there is something not as unique as the first ones...

And the 4 is just a joke, why? Because it seem to focus on just the "kill being wacky ", and what confuse me more about this is how in interviews the developers were saying "We are going to the roots of the series"..... By removing time limits, psychopaths, and making it super easy game with autosaves.....

Don't know if they were just lying or they didn't knew what were they talking about...
Also, did they remove psychopaths because they run out of money? Or because they didn't want to be "offensive " to anybody anymore?

I liked Case Zero better than I liked 2. Having a bunch of small town locations and traveling across the US with Katey would've been more interesting to me. It made me feel like I was playing The Last Stand again.

In a few clips I've seen, I thought the new actor does a pretty good job with the lines he's given. But largely he is nothing like the real Frank. Much like how DR4 falls terribly short of the series.

I played second one first and then third one. I thought second one was amazing and third one was pretty good, but certainly did see the bad things in it. Didn't have Xbox 360 so couldn't play the first one - I only played it when it came out last year on PC.

So last year I played the first one for the first time, and it is fucking amazing. Much much better than the second one. The atmosphere, story, the characters, the unique quirks, the detail, the animations, the simple weapons (instead of crafting), the weight behind hitting something, the upgrades, the psychos. Everything is better. Fucking love it.

Again, neither second or third game are bad, but they are worse. If Dead Rising 1 is 9/10, Dead Rising 2 is 8/10 and 3 is 7/10. Dead Rising 4 is complete garbage though.

Yeah, not technically a launch title, but really any game released between 2005 and 2007 more or less count in the grand scheme of things. It was a big console seller regardless (I got my 360 for it in '06)

Anybody think DR1 is still the best looking game in the franchise? All the others feel kinda off and their colors too desaturated.

Looks stupid. I've never felt compelled to try one.
