There isn't even voice acting in this game and his voice annoys me; from the dialogue alone, you can tell he shouts everything and has an irritating voice. He's always wrong about everything that's going on around him. He's not even any good in battle without Vivi.

Yeah, I used morgana for his full party full heal and joker for his buffs, along with the occasional random Futaba buff. Ryuji and Ann deal so much goddamn damage. Never really touched haru or yusuke.

Ann isn't very good early on, since the only thing she does well is magic nukes, so she needs to learn her passives to not just be obsolete compared to Joker. Up until the last two dungeons, jack-of-all-trade party members supporting a damage-dealing Joker is the optimal setup, but that reverses by the end game.

They literally get the same spells, except Makoto get Marakukaja and has more health and SP.

Buff are wasted on the MC since he's the best damage dealer bar none, so it's a huge help to have Ryuji and Makoto spamming their party buffs.

I beat the Reaper in a straight fight with Ryuji, Makoto and Haru at around 40, by forcing him to use Conentrate + Megidolaon and just healing up every turn with Makoto.

The 3 best characters late game in FF9 are clearly:

Zidane: Thievery: 9999
Freya: Dragon's Crest: 9999
Quina: Frog Drop: 9999

Then you choose either Eiko or Garnet as healer. Possibly Vivi with Doomsday and Shadow absorb.

Steiner does not get a look in. Shock costs too much MP compared to those other 9999 dealing abilities.

Him and Anelace up front dealing phys damage is what I done for the whole game, they get +50 and 60% DMG buffs with petal dance and distend, they deal more than any ATS dealer in half the turns required, it's insane. Richard is good too but I didn't like his lack of DMG buff and base dmg, and I found anelace to match his speed with a fools emblem + onyx gem

fair enough. I was more of a fan of just casting zodiac and debuffs where relevant since the two in combination make a fuckhuge difference in damage output when they both work. When I fought the final boss I literally thought "wait, that's it?" when I killed it, thinking it was just a first form because richard and the rest of my party melted it in what was effectively 2 turns.

Her self buff for me lasts an entire boss fight and more, I've never once had to re-cast it. Her crafts are pretty solid but you wont be needing them most of the time, just petal dance then spam eight leaf blitz, maybe fallen leaves if the enemy can be affected by AT delay, her dmg is insane. Especially with Jinu, if you get that the first half of the game becomes easy mode and if you beat the nightmare arena it's upgraded to one of the best weapons in the game.
