I briefly checked out a stream of a tournament of this game to see what it was actually like and there were like 20 people in the audience and it was in a tiny auditorium.

The game seems like a better game to make an esport out of than hearthstone although I don't know how money grubbing the game actually is. They make animated shorts that aren't cheap so they've gotta be raking it in.

I play it, so far at 2k rank the game doesn't seem too milk the players that hard, the only thing you can spend money on is gold (used to rank up troops and buy cards from a limited rotation in the shop, you get it easily for free) and gems (used to speed up unlocking chests and buy chests in the shop). I'm not even sure why you would spend money in the game as unit levels are restricted in tournament play and the game throws chests at you already.

Nigger, they literally give free entries to everyone in order to encourage tournament play.

For example, there was recently a challenge in which you had to win 20 times before losing three times. They gave people three free entries to do it, a fuckton of rewards even if you didn't get 20 wins, and even gave people a cheap way to keep playing if three free entries wasn't enough. There's literally no reason to not enter these things for free, and they always give free entries to almost every new event.

I was into it for a while a year or two ago. It was pretty fun and kind of scratched an RTS itch but there were major problems. The unit leveling made some units outright bad because their appeal was that unlike a slightly cheaper unit they won't get one-shot by other cards....unless those cards outleveled them heavily so you were just better off using the cheaper unit that would get one shot anyway.

Competitively it was a joke, even without the card levels ruining card balance. 99% of the absolute top spots on the ladder were secured and remained secured via win trading. Win trading is so ingrained into the game that at the first grand tournament it was happening in pools. Devs took 0 action against it, possibly because the win traders had already sank thousands into the game.

When they implemented tournament modes they were pure cancer. The way the tournament worked is that X amount of players joined it and it made a little leaderboard for those in the tournament. The winner of the tournament is the one with the highest rating at end of it, tournaments could last several days so autistically grinding out matches in "tournament" mode was how you won not necessarily maintaining a high win/loss ratio. The player that went 20 - 0 is going to be beat by the player that went 35 - 30.

Right when I stopped they introduced a "competitive" leaderboard or some shit like that. Card levels had a cap there but of course, to get access to it you paid like $5 to get x games, the more you win the more games you get.

Don't forget to mention the game is a rigged slot machine that hands off wins and losses. Although 2v2 seems to make it harder to rig I still seem to get into winning and losing streaks even in 2v2.

I'm at 4000k+(4300 right now) and I can say this happens, but it's probably to make sure you never climb up too fast. I' ve never spent money on the game, not even once, and I still managed to reach the leagues, but most of the times I get matched against lv12 shitters with stronger decks, they should really fix this
