Main games being developed in tandem with smaller budget 2D games is nothing new to SEGA, we got 3 Advance and 3 Rush games in the past, getting a new Mania shouldn't be that complicated

If they can do stuff like this, THEN they can put in an extra character like Amy or Fang. With the exception of Online multiplayer and Ghost replays, none of the above would take too much programming/dev effort but would improve the quality of the experience dramatically. If they can do things like this to polish and round off the experience, I'd be happy to get extra characters, but if the new game is just slapping in new zones and new characters without fixing up and improving the core experience, I'd be a little bit disappointed.

Kinda feels like a stretch.

Sonic 3 had knuckles unlocked from the start. I'd hope that if they added amy, she would be similar in that she is a main playable character, not some bonus unlock.

Taxman's previous remasters had Tails as unlockable in CD and Knuckles as an unlockable in 1. It seems like the kind of thing he'd do.

Also it would be much better to have her as an unlockable since she's a different playing character so people don't choose her for their first playthrough and ruin their experience if they don't like how she plays.

It still seems wrong to me. Just rework her so she has a one-button moveset, it wouldn't be that hard? Maybe give her the air slash but make it a bigger hitbox since it's her hammer?

The beauty of the one-button philosophy isn't just in the fact that it makes it simple for morons to play - it also makes the game incredibly portable, so if they ever wanted to port the game to a tablet or a microwave later on, the controls don't greatly suffer for it. I think it's a good thing to keep and by sticking to the one-button philosophy it ensures they don't go too far with character specific bullshit extra moves, which is a route I'd really rather they didn't go down.

Generations is the best one. Adventure 2 is also highly regarded by many but that depends on how you'll like Knuckles and Tails levels.

Well Fang, Bean and Bark are already sort of in Mania (not to mention Amy Dolls) so removing the extended cast is already out of the question

If you actually played Sonic instead of getting your opinions from Youtubers/IGN, you'd know the real problem with Sonic was NEVER his "friends" or extra characters. The problem was hammy storylines paired with multiple vastly different and unpolished playstyles - the characters were just a scapegoat used by people who knew the 3D Sonic games were bad but were too stupid to recognize why they were bad. There's no reason why someone like Amy, Espio or even Fang couldn't work as a fourth playable character in Mania 2 as long as they play similarly enough to the core trio, had an interesting mechanic, and don't bullshit up the story.

Of course, I'd prefer that they focused on other stuff first, like the stuff in >>388106857, but "friends" do not kill the game, they never have.

Right, but I never said any of the 3D Sonic games are worth anything at all. Amy, Espio, Fang etc. are all classic cast by the way. My point is that the 3D Sonic games suck because they're bad games, the bloated character roster was merely a symptom of that problem, not a cause.

Just give us more new stages rather than remixed ones, and please, please, don't rush it this time. I love this game, and I hate to say it, but it just shows sometimes, be it the fact that transitions just stop halfway through or that there's something just off with Titanic Monarch and the final boss. It felt like something was missing, give the devs the time they need and don't make it a tie in to a game that'll probably be worse in the first place. Even in my favorite zone, Press Garden, the snow theme felt like it was forced in last second, and they got lucky with it turning out really well.

Still my 2nd favorite game from this year desu, give me more of this and less of Forces please.

Total of 16 or so stages, with a single run always being 12 stages + a brief 13th for collecting all the chaos emeralds. A single unique stage per character, and different stage orders per character too. Pic related, might as well take good ideas where you find them.
