They just felt similar due to how they all followed the same sort of theme and the fact most characters had the same types of attacks for each charge level, IE, a projectile C1, a juggle C2, a aerial combo C4, a shockwave C6 were staples and the unique attacks were usually the other two.

The caligraphy brush was one of the worst weapons ever. It relied to much on the drawings gimmick and even then the damage just doesn't compare to the rest.

But yeah, I still wouldn't have preferred he got something new.

I really hope Xiahou Dun still has his old giant scimitar. Felt so good to use with the improved moveset in 8, but it was definitely at its best in 5.
