MH has a lot more moveset complexity across its weapon types, while DaS has far more moveset variety across individual weapons within the type. It's apples and oranges.

Minecraft gave birth to the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Minecraft only because multiple developers have aped the crafting survival and building aspects. Dark souls took awhile to get clones for the series.

The long and short of it is that all weapons in a particular weapontype in MH have the same moveset, but that moveset is very complex. The difference in each weapon is more about elemental damage, status ailments, sharpness and, of course, the ever-climbing damage output.

Dark Souls is a game about finding a weapon you like and then upgrading its damage or elemental properties until it's the best weapon in YOUR game.

MH is a game about finding a weapon TYPE you like, and progressing through fighting monsters and gathering ingredients to continuously craft better and better weapons of that type.

Dark Souls carved out a subgenre, but Minecraft did the same thing by spawning an age of half-assed survival craft games that is still going to this day, and hasn't slowed down one step. Minecraft goes a step further by being the protokickstarter and the protogreenlight. It made every scammer- Sorry, 'indie developer', think they can fleece normal people out of millions of dollars. Notch was a normal shit poster on this very board till he became right overnight. All it took was one halfassed idea, and he didn't even need to make good on it.

Every kickstarter scam. Every steam greenlight with stolen assets. Every JOIN OUR PERMANENT BETA GAME THAT COSTS THE SAME AS A FULL RELEASE. Blame Minecraft. It was the seed of the ideas that plague us today.
