Which end do I insert?

This is the single worst controller in gaming history. Especially the left joycon. Right one is okay if you have the grip thing(sold separately of course) but using the right one without any grip is pure pain. The L/R buttons are mushy and awkward to press. You have to claw your hand to press them and it's really uncomfortable after just a few minutes of play.
