What pisses me is how it was presented. Up to that point we had 0 clues she was a lesbian. No, the haircut doesn't count, there's a million characters with dyke/short hair that aren't lesbos and many others that have long hair that are lesbos. Don't compare identifying someone as a warrior because of his armor to telling someone is a lesbian because of her haircut.
What could have been a lighthearted christmas comic felt like a "oh hey Tracer is lesbian" from Blizzard.
When building a character, you have to keep in mind that things make sense for it to be that way. There was nothing that indicated she was lesbian, nor she being a lesbian builds her character in any way. Doesn't explain the way she acts, talks, behaves...nothing.

Let's have a different example because I'm sure many will say I'm complaining because she is a lesbian. Take Reinhardt into example. In the comic, we see Rein being a good bro with Torb kids. Is it believable for Rein to act like that? Well, yeah, Rein is a heartwarming character that's always happy and cheerful. Now, what if in the comics we had seen that he actually hates kids? IT wouldn't have made much sense given his character up to this point. However, it is still possible for it to be like that, but we have no reason to believe it. It would need aditional info and characetr building to fit.

That's pretty much my concern. Don't tell things about a character that aren't gonna help build the character in any way. Even if you say it's just "silly info", it can hurt the concept of the character, and sexuality is not a silly info. Just because people shouldn't mind someone's orientation doesn't mean it's not important.
All these things about their characters Blizzard is doing lately make me wonder if Blizzard just wants us like the characters for the ideas they represent, rather than for being actually good and lovable characters.

But we all have and do things because of what we are. When someone is straigh, they have little details that show that off, same when they are homo, bi, or whatever the flying retards you want. Most of the time, these details won't show on a character for the simple fact that his sexuality isn't important to the character. It adds nor affects nothings. But because of that exact reason you should NOT define a sexual orientation for it because it will just show how flawed the character is, since now there's dicrepancies on his persona.

Look at it this way. Let's grab Captain Falcon from F-Zero. Is there anything that makes you think he's homo? The tightsuit doesn't count Now, is there anything that makes you believe he isn't? The answer to both answers is no, because where CF puts his dick doesn't matter in any way to F-Zero. But because he is a FICTIONAL character on an established universe and laws, the moment you do define his sexuality and there are no clues or indicatives that it was this way, it will make me start wondering how good of a character he really is and how many flaws he had. But this is not limited to sexuality, it's tied to any kind of new character building information that up to that point had 0 foreshadowing.

This is the reason on why sequels of any kind are usually bad, because they introduce new things and info that doen't make sense, feel forced or were never talked about, despite the fact that "they've always been there".
This is not real life, this is a fictional story and characters. The good writter and designer are the one that makes things feel natural and believable, not the one that makes things realistic.
The moment you apply or compare a fictional story to real life, even if this story tries to be as realistic as possible, that's when you fuck up, because it is not real life, so don't try to handle it like it.
