Yes, Borderlands 1 had a lot of good things 2 didn't. Like multiple vehicle types simultaneously (even if it was just for DLC), no stupid gimmicks for weapons manufacturers just had one or two better weapons of a certain type than there competition. Hidden sidequests. Eridian weapons existed, instead of gimmicky laser and plasma weapons. You weren't forced to do sidequests or grind, sidequests were fully optional. "Invincible" enemies weren't overly cheap like terramorphous which just decides to throw you off the map if it's losing.

the thing with BL2 bosses is that they were easily beatable with certain cheese strats (re: Bee+Conference Call) but then they went out of their way to make it as much of a shitty MMO as they could, including:

>nerfing any strat that lets someone solo

the gay thing really is that most fights revolve around the health gate. Something something taking killing damage when above 50% health leaves you at 1 health. Which in end-game BL2 is everything.

I never even finished BL2. I tried to like 3 times too.

BL1 just clicked with me more, I think the universe of BL2 put me off a lot.
I'm not even the kind of person who cares about "omg so cringy" shit.

I don't care if the humor doesn't land, but I think they swapped out an interesting world for a world where everyone was spouting one liners.

The pandora of BL1 was lonely, dry, unforgiving. Not witty, full of character, and goofy.

the distinction of manufacturers, and weapon feel was great in 1
BL1 Atlus Pearl revolvers were the greatest, followed by Maliwan ones

the Zombie island add on was great and solo Crawmerax was a good challenge

I haven't played it yet. However I'm a huge fan of BL2 and TPS with 250+ hours in each. I didn't start BL1 first because it suffers the typical console port disease: no proper FOV setting among other things. FOV is the most important thing to me, at 65 aka console levels it's just hurting my brain. I've since then known you can change this per console commands, but this was kinda bothersome. I'd bind the command to the movement keys but it didn't feel good, because when sprinting the view would snap back or something like that.
Also the classes or action skills look a little bit underwhelming coming from the sequels. most slots seem to do MMO like shit like +0.2% recoil reduction per level etc. But it's very high on my backlog list that's for sure.

I'm actually one of those people who had to see how deep the rabbithole actually went. Borderlands 1 was inexplicably boring.

-No voice acting for the majority of quests just lines of very boring dialogue
-Very limited range of guns. There were only a couple of types of weapons and they generally all felt the same to fire. Other than faster reload speed or slightly reduced magazine size I was having trouble telling one combat rifle from another. The weapon manufacturers basically just tell you which modifiers are applied against it.
-Enemy types are continually repeated throughout the base game. You'll encounter the same "YOU GONNA SQUEAL BEFORE WE COOK YA?!" bandit at level 1 through to level 25. There is a serious lack of any enemy variety. The majority of it is skags, bandits, scythids and rakks. The guardians only appear in the last zone.
-Every quest in the game is very much like something out of an MMO. Go here, kill 8 of this, 6 of this and plant 4 of these and then return. Most of them actually take place in a zone appropriately called "The Middle of No Where" which is probably the blandest zone imaginable.
-Which brings to me a point on zones. There's almost no variety there either. It's the same kind of desert environment or canyon copied and pasted over and over. Only when you get to the last zone does it legitimately change.
-All of the character trees are awful. Generally they're filled with the generic 1-5% increase in whatever some of which become entirely irrelevant as the game progresses such as Mordecai's ransack giving you extra loot bringing me to another point.
-Suddenly around level 20 the game just starts shitting out high quality loot on EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ENEMY you kill. It's absolutely absurd and selling just a few of these items gets you currency capped. There's no satisfaction when it comes to loot at all.

-The DLC has no fast travel stations. Even if you hate fast travel you will legitimately feel the pain driving down that fucking highway with the Crimson Lance in General Knoxx's DLC. You know the one I'm talking about. The DLC also introduces no new music at all save Mad Moxxi's 5 second theme.
-Mad Moxxi's DLC is an absolute joke. You're put into an arena and survive against very easy waves of enemies. The time you spend waiting between rounds is the hardest thing and the only thing which changes is it starts putting modifiers on your rounds such as only kill with a shotgun which really doesn't change it all that much when everything melts.
-Many quests are repeated. They actually use the smash rocks in cave and collect shards one four times and the find the Claptrap a repair kit TEN TIMES

Aside from some good music I'm struggling to name some positives. I couldn't believe how sterile the game was. It was almost as if it was in a coma. I completed every single quest just to see if at some point there was something which rose above and beyond the rest of its mediocrity. No such luck

It's a heavily flawed game, but most people were playing it for the shoot n' loot, of which there were not a whole lot at the time. Why do you sell your old consoles? Keep them you retard, there is literally no reason for consoles to be backwards compatible.

My thing with Borderlands is that in 2 you could level your character almost any way and still have a balanced character while in 1 you were stuck on whatever path you went with. I also don't like how you could make a support character yet not play with anyone at all. Wouldn't mind some kind of ai to simulate friends but mostly because I'm a lonely fuck that hates actually dealing with people.

Yes and no. It did some important shit a lot better than the other games:

BL2 did get many things right, mostly in terms of technical stuff though.
