Why does everyone hate the green eyes?

I don't mind the modern design in a vacuum, but it's kinda hard not to associate it with bad things after it's been in so many shit games. Of course Sonic's eye color is usually the least of the game's problems.

It adds unnecessary detail to a simple design. It doesn't look bad it's just pointless. I assume a lot of people dislike it because it also marked a turning point with the series.

He already has a lot of stinkers. It seems like they would handle him with more care now though since his image represents the "good" of the series to most people. The worst he'll probably get would be as bad as new Mario titles get which range from uninteresting, to "not what I wanted", to mildly flawed at worst quality.

Sonic is supposed to be a cool character, that's how he is supposed to be marketed
So they give him a design that would ake him cooler looking
Mickey and all Disney related stuff has never been marketed as something as cool so of course this redesign doesn't work

Sonic had colored eyes before, they were brown. It's the style, how they just encircle the whole pupil. It makes it look like the pupils are always constricted, it's a little unnerving. Makes him look insane.
