Defend this

It's been 11 years. CALM DOWN.
>>
>expecting an 11-year old console to have good resolution
>>

>>
It's better than the Wii U and the Switch.

Is 4K popular now?

That's how HD was in 2006.
>>
>>388050118
480p was never HD tard

>>388049929
it was a cheap console in the year 2006. forget 599 usd even the 360 was pretty damn expensive. $300 for the base console without a hard drive.
>>
>>388049929
calm down, it had gamecube compatibility

Nintendo had no obligation to give us that. Be grateful.
>>
Not like it mattered since many of the big-name PS3 and 360 games rendered at resolutions between 500p and 600p
>>
>$15 used
>native 480 analogue output
>homebrew out the ass

Wii is the greatest emulation box ever built.
>>
>>388050335
>native 480 analogue output
Not just that, but native 240p. Shit's glorious for emulation.
>>
makes it amazing for emulation

>when you realize 12 year old x360 supported 1080i
>>
and Sony was still doing the "100% tru real 1080p HD guiz" bullshit
>>
>>388050225
>480p was never HD tard

he's saying that HD was as popular in 2006 as 4k is now

I don't quite agree, i'd say 2003 is a better comparison
>>
>>388050559
Just because a console can upscale to that resolution doesn't mean the game it was playing actually rendered at it. Most of the games didn't even natively render at 720p.

Works well for emulation.

>480p was never HD tard

It was called Enhanced Definition at the time, which is basically equivalent to what 4K is now.
>>
>>388049929
I can't. Fuck nintendo for that weak trash console. Neat emu box tho.
>>
>>388049929
It had fun games

Reminder the Mega Drive was once considered HD.
Excuse how dusty it is, haven't used it in a while.

When nintendo makes statements like "we don't consider other console makers competitors" they actually mean it. They are a company solely focused on doing whatever they want to do rather than focus on a tech race. They didn't owe the consumer HD. it was literally a Gamecube 2.0 that offered players a brand new gameplay method. The only real flaw it had was the bad online. Luckily very few games utilized it.
>>
It didn't even do 720p, inexcusable, it's just a tweaked GameCube with waggle waggle.
>>
>>388052374
This is why Nintendoalwayswinslol. They understand these things are toys
>>
>>388051135
In 2006 720p/1080i TV's with HDMI were considered high end. 480p is more like 2002/3, it's when Gamecube, Xbox and PS2 started selling component adapters. (Well, Nintendo not as much, enjoy paying hundreds of dollars for one.) It's still silly that the Wii never had an HDMI-capable refresh.
>>
>>388050762
being able to internally scale and output at "X" resolution is still important though. It makes no sense why the Wii could never out put at 720p, and Nintendo is making the same mistake again with the Switch not supporting 4k output. Xbone S and PS4 Slim support 4k output, and so does the Switch's sister console the newest Shield refresh. Nintendo actively decided to downgrade Switch hardware from the Shield for no reason, considering it wouldn't affect battery life due to being a function of the dock.
>>
>>388054547
the jump from 480 to 720 was a lot more important than 1080 to 4k. 4k does look better but I personally stopped caring about resolution when I could read tiny letters on my big screen.
