One of my favorite games of all time, the combat isn't great but it's serviceable and the bosses are fun. The rest of the gameplay is great, I love how your demon follows you around the world map and you use them to solve crimes and shit.

good story, plot and characters but the gameplay is really sallow outside some boss fights. if you like the idea of being an detective who can summon demons and solve demotic mystery involving the Japanese government in the early 19th century of japan, its worth it.

the gameplay is improved but the story and plot is just... weird. from what i remember its about how you cant change fate and if you try, you will fail and something bad will happen too you. the plot of the game is about a group of people stealing other peoples luck to save someone from their ill fate or some shit, cant remember.

some old faces return but the new characters are pretty awful and wont stop getting in your face. than it also has the law, neutral and chaos theme going on but it feels really out of place at times.

overall, its worth a try.

Cool setting. Nice characters. 1st has a pretty damn good story, 2nd has a decent story. Raidou's design is sexy as fuck. Gameplay is pretty trash, and the games feel like they were on a very tight budget. Would love a 3rd.

It's fun.

The series (including Soul Hackers) easily has the best OSTs in the entire franchise. DS 2 is fun, and the original demons for the game have really memorable designs.

All improvements to the combat system in the second game (and dodge roll basically was only real one) are countered by the tiny fact that the encounter design in 2 is absolute dog shit compared to the first game.

Raidou 1 combat was good. Variable sword attacks were much better system than useless magic-power attack of 2. Also 2 demons meant one more useless weight to babysit.
And basically every fight that wasn't just random trash and many of those fights too, in 2 was just "aoe charm, aoe charm, aoe charm, aoe charm, aoe sleep". Fuck that shit.
2 improved things by having actual demon negotiations, limiting random encounters to specific areas and by having best human waifu best demon waifu combo.

I really wish there were more games with a cool Taisho/late Meiji setting.
