Also in most military games you don't play a basic army grunt you play some kind of spec ops or otherwise above-average soldier so it'd be a bit dumb to go through basic training.

I think Republic Commando does it quite well where the intro sequence has playable bits of the commandos going through training in a brief montage. That's probably as best you can get away with without immediately following the basic training mission with "7 YEARS LATER".

Why would you want to play all those fuck fuck games, cleaning, marching drill, with the occasional cool thing every once in a while?

I made it 2 years in theB's without a car before I deployed, just ran/walked everywhere,not rides from roommates to the px, ate meals at the dfac. Saved a fuck ton of schekels. Another thing, unless you're captain America, don't volunteer or sign up for the hilly bad ass stuff like rasp or airborne. I did airborne and it fucked up my knees for good. Overall, really think it over before you join.
