Belongs as much on /v/ as walking simulators do.
They're alright.

Any game with an engaging plot and characterization, I assume, since the Last of Us doesn't fit into the actual definition of a visual novel.
How do you guys play games without stories?
uncharted 4 is a literal masterpiece and no action game will ever trump its storytelling

Heavily enjoying BotW rn. Started playing Demon's Souls for the first time in July and couldn't play anything else until after NG+2.
(((Story))) and (((Citizen Kane of video games))) has ruined vidya.

You a falseflagger or do you not understand why tetris is entertaining?
I only read them if they are Yuri. Hell, I even pay for them if they are Yuri like Flowers and Kindred spirits on the roof.

Yeah, but if you play only that stuff it gets old pretty quickly. Personally I like story heavy games more, but play all kinds of games. I don't understand how anyone could just write off story focused games completely, it just seems stupid.
I would say Uncharted is less of a visual novel since it has more gameplay vs cutscene. Tlou would sorta fall into visual novel territory tbqhwy

Zero story worked back when games were 10 hours long max (enough time to familiarize yourself with controls but not enough time for things to become repetitive) but I can't imagine playing something like Demon Souls for 40 hours or more. You've seen one hallway of enemies to slaughter your way through and you've seen them all; there's no point in which the game "gets good" or markedly improves. Stories became more of a thing as games moved away from being two hour quarter munchers and started focusing more on building convincing fictional worlds for players to escape to.

Linear games 90% of the time have better stories than open world games because they trade of freedom for better pacing.

I have no problem with visual novels since at least it's an honest description of the genre with no "game" in the label anywhere. What puts me off is all those walking sims and cinematic "experiences" being reviewed and advertised as games to the detriment of actual games, and receiving better scores than them. The ones that do have some simplistic game mechanics are even worse since every faggot out there will latch onto them to claim it's a legitimate game and not just padding for the movie segments.

>niggers haven't played either but that doesn't stop them from shitposting
