bump, so sue me -- D:U is almost deffo a scam, and put me off kickstarting overload in the first place. they pretend to take feedback and then tell the most dedicated fans/pilots that they're not playing the game right and that the single-player will be eventually. major regrets about buying that one; shows what kind of staying power the brand had though.

it's in EA right now -- http://store.steampowered.com/app/448850/Overload/ -- major patches with a new level and/or weapon and robot every six weeks (almost like clockwork since march), full release in about six months! got pushed back last month but it's def for the best. runs like a dream, the devs just need to crank out content, do some balancing work, and document the level editor.

Does it run better now? The performance was kind of iffy when I tried the teaser 2.0 whenever that came out, also the deadzone adjustment being a global off/low/medium/high setting instead of per-axis sliders like the older titles was annoying as hell.

lots of bugfixes and stuff since that version...it's almost a given the new stuff runs way better. not perfect -- lots of optimizing to do -- but definitely better than it was in march for most/all pilots. plus all the new mechanics and weapons and levels and robots and etc etc etc are straight fun to play.

unsure about deadzone action -- post it up in the forums though! devs are hungry for shit to tweak and are pretty responsive. playoverload.com/forums

Descent 2 is one of my all time favorites, Overload looks to actually be delivering.
Proof that good developers still exist anyway. Fucked if I know, I just want a new Descent that's not shit.

100% my dude -- one of the devs has said they've almost totally replicated the original flight model. singleplayer campaign is deep under wraps but the horde mode they put together by accident has serious staying power imo (speaking as one of those weenies with 150 hours in)

yeah most folks I talk to check in with the patches and/or aren't touching the campaign so they can run it totally blind on release. Challenge Mode is where it's at though -- competition's pretty tense at times and the few of us streaming it trade PBs/WRs pretty consistently

and yeah the devs are awesome -- they'll occasionally take questions on the OG descen't dev cycles and their fallings out with interplay, jet setting with brian fargo, etc,.

What even happened with Interplay? From what I could gather using the old info floating on the net, Herve was being a slimy piece of greedy shit again and flagrantly ignoring the contract about paying royalties from the older titles, so the guys at Parallax lawyered up and got the titles pulled.

From what I recall, that was a different team that were in talks with Interplay to try and make it an official Descent title, but Herve decided to C&D them instead to have all trademarks removed and give the license to the Underground faggots.

That's about right, from what I've heard from Mike. He and Matt Toschlog, cofounder of parallax, are amazingly chill for having been cheated out of what I'd assume is a small pile of cash from Steam/GoG royalties...I'm wildly speculating he and Matt were able to partly fund the game (and buy Luke Schenider, another dev from the D3/red faction days) using $$ they got from being Volition prez and going back into the flight sim industry, so they're not exactly missing it. My take is Interplay's just greedy/incompetent, the usual. Konami sans pachinko is how I think of it, not that I paid laser attention to that whole fiasco...

Star Citizen guys were weenies for nabbing the Descent name and then wasting it -- think the 6dof community is kinda cheesed about that (and basically use Descent 4 interchangeably with Overload) but the devs were happy to get a fresh start.
