i think that even in 0 the lock on button doesn't always work properly, you still focus on everywhere but the closest or only target to fight, I also encounter some weird glitches or bugs but i think my only complain is about how Majima as a character was developed a lot in 0 that following the other stories seems like they are not the same. I only ever owned the first Yakuza on PS2.
Did they ever release an HD collection so I can get back into it on PS3/4?

Why did 0 supposedly ruin the fanbase? All it did was finally get rid of the shitty 4 protagonists gimmick. Who likes being stuck playing as one character without being able to switch back until endgame.

I've been playing through the Yakuza series throughout the year so I could play 0 as well as finally getting around to them (Been wanting to play for the last couple of years anyway).

Up to Yakuza 4 at the moment(about 1/4th of the way through), and I am debating if I should skip 5 for now and come back to it later.

I greatly enjoyed 1 and especially 2 and never played sequels because no PS3. From what I understand, they got another writer after 2 and the tone changed. For those who played all games in the series, which episode would you say is your favorite?

Start with Yakuza 0. It's a fucking fantastic game. It perfected the formula. Then play Kiwami. Then, do one of the following:

1. Play Yakuza 2-5. You could emulate 2 if you don't have a PS2. 3, 4, and 5 are PS3 exclusives. If you don't have a PS3 and this option's out of your ballpark, go with:

2. Read synopses of the events from Yakuza 2 thru 5. Better yet, if you can find some cutscene collections on youtube or playthroughs on GameAnyone, go with that. Much better experience than just reading your homework.

After doing one of those two things, wait with the rest of us for Yakuza 6, faget.

Yakuza: Dead Souls is skippable and not canon (got retconned by 5, and desu I don't think they ever intended it to be canon anyway) however it's fun if you find enjoyment in "trash games" and has some of Majima's best moments. Even if it's the worst game in the series, I enjoyed it, but then again, I liked Akiba's Trip, Drakengard 3, and Gal*Gun.

Y0 started falling apart after chapter 10, by ch14 I was desperate for it to end, the final chapter sucked dick, and I immediately started a new game plus after finishing it.

As for Kiwami I've only seen /v/ complain about Majima everywhere as it conflicts heavily with the plot and it gets very repetitive and annoying and the soundtrack is worse than the original game

Only reason I didn't play Nier first was because I read that Yoko Taro said that you wouldn't understand Automata as well if you played Nier first, or Automata wouldn't have the same effect if you played Nier first, or something like that. I can't even remember where I read it but it was enough to make me hold off till I played Automata.
