This game was too far ahead of its time. If I had hit well into the 360/PS3 era I think it could have been huge. It was pretty much modern in terms of content (for better or worse). Play a game, get your points, use those points to buy cosmetics for your dudes and backgrounds. Lots of autistic stat tracking like rounds played/survived, total time played, weapons used, etc. They could easily sell lootboxes and goypoints.

Back during the PS2/GC/Xbox era online gaming wasn't huge, and if you were that weird guy that had online for your console it was the Xbox. There were alot of costs for the optimal experience. The game, a PS2 hard drive, and a keyboard.

The fan server is a nice substitute, but worse than the real servers, but even then the original servers were pretty ass themselves. When Playstation online was some weird experimental thing this was fine. If they would have waited and released it on the semi-stable console infrastructure we have now... Could have been different.

I miss the days when cosmetics and cheat codes were just in the game because they were fun and video games weren't run by shady out of touch old men.
