I grew up with Sonic 2 so I may be a bit biased, but I'm going through Sonic 3K Complete and am having a hard time enjoying some of the levels.

Some levels drag on for too long, or are filled up with sucker punch obstacles (Marble Garden in particular).

I hated the half pipe, but the Blue Balls are a cause of pain to my retina. The turning also feels very unresponsive. I'm playing on a shit laptop so maybe that has to do with it.

You can't be serious. Sonic 2's Special Stage takes more luck than anything if you're doing any of them the first time, and after that relies on memorization through trial and error. Blue Sphere, on the other hand, is all about skill. If you fail in Blue Sphere, it's your own fault and not the game's.

Sonic 3 has better music and visuals. That's why I like it best. Sonic 2 is good, but Hill Top, Oil Ocean, Metropolis, Sky Chase, and Wing Fortress are all super uninteresting to look at.

Also FYI, Hill Top and Death Egg from Sonic 2 reused level assets from Emerald Hill and Chemical Plant Respectively. And technically Sky Chase reuses the assets from Wing Fortress. So 3 of the 10 levels in Sonic 2 reuse level assets.
