In all honesty, I can sort of understand this since the draw distance for the switches is really low. You won't even see them until you get within a certain distance.
There is one switch above the slope on the right side of where you came from, I believe. There's another above a path leading to the mines, across the water. I think it's also on the right side of the area, across the water.

Funny thing is how the low draw distance is even a fucking game mechanic.
You need to use the Sniper scope to view and hit some switches later on because otherwise the shot disappears into thin air

basically all of this plus most of the golden banana quests were just flying through rings or racing someone. It's very much like Nuts and Bolts in terms of actual objectives.

It also lacked the charm of Banjo, the only memorable character from the game aside from HE is Chunky.

This game gets much better when you replay it, knowing what to do and being familiar with the locations makes it really fun to play.
I would also say some of the glitches (OoB swimming, skid jump, moonkick/tail, orange boost/clip, etc..) helps with the game's flow (like getting early camera/shockwave and early crystal caves unlocking most of the powerups and upgrades).
It's repetitive? Yeah, a lot, but I still enjoy it.
and I liked it more than Banjo-Tooie

I feel like the only reason they did the forced Kong collectibles thing is because there's pretty much no reason to ever play somebody like Chunky if nothing is unique to him. If I had my choice as a kid I would have basically never played as DK or Chunky and mostly been Diddy and Lanky.

DK64 is fully playable to 101% completion tho.
mupen64 is actually better than pj64 for that and it doesn't suffer from level reseting or polygonal tearing, hell it even emulates the lag so the minigames don't async like the Kong shooting gallery.

There is something about DK64's controls that I can't put my finger on. It's as if DK is too sensitive, yet too stiff at the same time.
It's most apparent when you're standing still and moving the stick left and right, or in the opposite direction you're facing. It feels so weird and janky, but I can never put it into words. Banjo has a similar problem, but it's nowhere near as bad.

Look at it like this, you can switch at any point at any time. Now what? You pause to switch to Donkey to grab 5 yellow bananas, Diddy to hit the stupid balloon, Tiny to hit the other stupid purple balloon, Lanky to beat up the blue alligator dude, and then Chunky to hit the switch all at the area. You see what I mean now? Being able to switch at any time would just make the game's flaws THAT much more noticeable.
