home screen is ok, it literally only happens after maybe 20 minutes of playing a PS3 game, when i go back to home screen it looks normal and when i play ps2 games there is no issue.

It's dying. The GPU in PS3 fats dies. Remember the Red Ring on the 360? Same thing. Pretty soon it won't turn on at all and you'll just get a yellow light, then red, then it will shut off.
