I enjoyed the mechanics of AAI more than the main games', actually.

Nothing, people pretend to hate any female that isn't Maya like the nostalgia fags that they are

AAI2 is a better game but there's still nothing wrong with the first game

I guess people just like the court segments better or something

Also some people didn't like the overarching theme of having everything connected because it loses their own individual charm, despite T&T having 3 out of it's five cases doing this

2 bad cases and the rest was just okay. While Alba became a meme I liked it, felt like fighting a final boss.
Investigations 2 on the other hand is my favorite in the series and I put case 3 and 4 of that game above almost everything in the series.

I liked it. My biggest issue with it is a technical reason where sometimes the screen would flash white too often. I had to put it down several times because it gave me a headache. Other than that, two of the cases weren't that good to me, but the rest of it is fine.

The entire fucking cast of case 3 is AWFUL though - it's a good thing the murder plot itself was kind of neat, because there was no likeable or entertaining character in that whole case

In other words, retards judge this game based on minute details instead of looking at it as a whole. It's a great game.
>>
>>387923990
As a whole AAI has a shitty story with a shitty cast of boring characters.
>>
>>387923990
To be fair, the minute details kind of matter when the characters are as bad as something like AAI-3. I like the game still too, but it definitely has a bunch of problems which makes it a weaker entry.

Speaking of Lang, I wish he was in it more. With the second case being on the plane and the fourth being a flashback, he only really gets to show off his dual animations with Shih-na and his lackeys in the third case.

Von Karma, Gant and Debeste were all great final boss materials.
Bonus points to Debeste for literally being the one personally responsible for Von Karma's first and only infraction and thus by snowballing proxy responsible for everything that happened to Edgeworth.

Not just that. To Phoenix and Larry as well, and Hammond's death, as well as being responsible for Misty's disappearance, which by proxy triggered Mia's death. Technically this dude is the furthest you can get down the line of "they start a domino of murder and fuckery", though.
>>
>>387920185
- It's ostensibly Edgeworth's game, but he hardly matters to it. You can chalk that up to him not being the originally-intended MC, but there's no reason given outside of being Johnny-on-the-Spot for getting involved in any of the cases save for Visitor, and even that was coincidence. He winds up the Vaan of his own game. One of the things that the sequel improved on was giving Edgeworth a stake in what was happening and making hard choices about what he stood for. His biggest decision in AAI is when he decides that strict adherence to the law is too limiting to punish some criminals, which doesn't sound like him at all.
- Kay is Cody Hackins tier, and the thief shtick isn't ever funny. Her connections to Gumshoe and especially von-Karma-era Edgeworth are tenuous at best and at worst make it seem like they would NEVER be friends ('Oh right, you're the girl who snotted up my cravat! I've missed you!').
- Music was wildly uneven, and despite some gems, had the worst stuff Iwadare has produced for the AA games.
- The story drags on wayyyy past the climax (the truth about the Yatagarasu) and the 'final boss' so to speak lacks confidence to the point that fucking LARRY has him shaking like a leaf
- Despite it being a reasonably big deal in Rise From the Ashes and Apollo Justice, all forensics are done off-screen save for a five-minute meeting with Ema that feels like a damn tease.

It's still an OK game despite all that, but once I get past Chapter 2 (my favorite), a replay goes real slow.

Definitely, and Zheng Fa is either China or HK, but seeing as they explicitly refer to it as "Republic of Zheng Fa" it's pretty certain that it's supposed to be China.
And SoJ is in Tibet.

Allebahst is supposed to be anti-tourism and have strict policies, while Babahl is the polar opposite.
So that makes them Allebahst for Palestine and Babahl for Israel.
>>
>>387927509
>- Despite it being a reasonably big deal in Rise From the Ashes and Apollo Justice, all forensics are done off-screen save for a five-minute meeting with Ema that feels like a damn tease.

I really hate how the AAI games handled Ema. The Little Thief wasn't even hers (it could've been), and she shows up completely randomly and in incredibly nonsensical ways (AAI2-4 being the epitome of this, WHILE THEY'RE HIDING FROM THE LAW).

In English version only, remember, localization yada yada. Franny and Von Karma are from Germany in localization but from America in Jap original.

No, the von Karmas only lived in America for a while in the original. The localization made them foreign.

But it does. In fact as we see in AAI2, his father came to that same exact realization. But they only bend the laws in absolutely extreme circumstances and not straight up break them and neither resorts to murder.
Also I'd like to remind you that Edgeworth LITERALLY became the second Yatagarasu with Kay and Gumshoe.

Which means Gumshoe is Badd's successor and Edgeworth is... Calisto's..?

It'd also mean Kay is going to become a defense attorney. Actually, her studying under Ray or something would be a pretty cool plot advancement.
>>
>>387927982
Wrong person you retard, that was Pierre Hoquet/Isaac Dover.
>>
>>387928226
I think they make countries fictional the moment they have something somewhat bad to say about them, so you get Khura'in and Cohdopia. It also allows for more plot freedom, so it makes sense.

The splitting of countries is a lot closer to something like Austria-Hungary or even Serbia/Kosovo or something, though. I really doubt handrubbing points to Israel in particular.
>>
>>387928296
Not really a successor but replacement.
And they don't have to be the same roles.
Yatagarasu needs 3 components.
A thief to obtain evidence (Kay)
A detective to clean up in case of fuckups (Gumshoe)
An attorney to use the evidence on trial (Edgeworth)
>>
>>387928374
Woops, you're right. Gustavia was still a murderous bastard though, and he still left his son alone because he only cared about fucking pastries.
>>
>>387928565
The original Yatagerasu (I hate that they kept that name, goddamn) had both a prosecutor and an attorney (who also worked as thief), though. It completes the trio.

Not that we're seeing AAI3 ever, so it probably doesn't matter.
>>
>I really doubt handrubbing points to Israel in particular.
There's more though. It's their obsession with money and being notoriously greedy and wanting to kike you out of money.
It's literally an over millennium old stereotype that jews are money grubbing.
Not to mention the same language thing, which does NOT apply to Austro-Hungary or Czechoslovakia. Neither does the greed part.

The filler cases were rather forgettable.

I still really liked it, especially the gameplay. It actually made investigating fun, instead of tedious bullshit you do between cases. They really should have taken the gameplay from this and applied it to the main series. I guess DD/SoJ kind of have more to their investigations now but it still has the whole first-person pixel hunt shit. Logic is the best gimmick in the franchise.

I joined really early on, back when only the first game came out (I just picked it up on a whim in a game store). The community used to be TINY but there was a lot of word of mouth. Still though, the people who played the game and then found their way to Court Records was really small, so it was pretty close-knit.

Oddly enough, it was a lot of relatively older people who had been into point-n-clicks or had played the game in Japanese. I specifically remember a gay guy who was extremely gay for Gumshoe, he was funny as shit.

Early Court Records can partly be attributed for the success of the series, honestly - the main admins of the site ripped all the sprites and graphics and sounds, and made the sprites into gifs, a monstrous amount of effort. But that spawned all the shit like them being used as reaction image or in objection-generators and the like, which made the idea of Phoenix Wright go viral. One person of the localization team and one person of the marketing team at Capcom actually used to post there, and I'm pretty sure some forum in-jokes got into the translations.

At a certain point the place got kind of clogged with younger kids and teens though, and conversations got super inane and dumb. Oh well, not much you can do.

There's always been good people on there (there still are), but at a certain point wading through massive piles of shit and seeing the same arguments over and over gets kind of tiring. A few years back the main tech guy and the guy who coded the entire site (Wooster), who lives on a small farm, had a hurricane followed by a blizzard destroy a large part of his house and kill a chunk of his goats and sheep. They got together and funded him to tide him over until shit was fixed, so that was nice.

The danger of a fan community for a series like this is that there's really only limited gameplay so there is never going to be a lot of original content past fan art (you can't do crazy shit like in a Dark Souls community, say), so a lot of it comes down to bickering over the story. You even see that on /v/, or Tumblr, or wherever. So at a certain point, after the games dry up, the community dries up, and only the hardcore dipshits who have to get their arguments in are around.

This is also the case with a lot of /v/ threads when there haven't been new games in a while, but it's worse on a forum because it lingers instead of being temporary, so old gripes get raked up CONSTANTLY.

>>387933751
That's a pretty good indicator, yeah.

Also, for another funny story: there used to be this really fucking racist kid who really hated black people for some reason and always argued that everyone in AA was meant to be white, not Asian. But he could never call races by their name, so he called blacks "rap people", which stuck with me forever. Fucking rap people.

I'll be honest, I kinda latch onto the new generation of lawyers a little less, maybe nostalgia maybe it's the characters, it's a blur

I didn't get the crazy hype I got at the final chapters of the trilogy, either.

They're really fun and I hope we'll keep getting more for years to come, buuuut.... they don't have the charm of the tight cast of gumshoe and maya and larry and all that. It's subjective, I know.

Second game is okay but the really strong and best case in the series isn't until the end after going through bullshit

T&T is fantastic and one of the top 3

Apollo Justice is a unique game but falls flat in certain areas, Apollo himself is a very enjoyable character though

Investigation games are different but still follow AA standards, fun but boring at times, the second game is absolutely fantastic also one of the top 2

Dual destinies brought the series back and despite it's massive handholding and other certain flaws people birch slap each other about.it manages to set up one of the highest stakes in the series'

Spirit of Justice is DD but even better without handholding and proper character uses that past games failed to do, and is also one of the top 3

Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney can only be appreciated if you played a Layton game before since that's what the primary style is

Cameos or lack of them don't impact the series as much as people pretend it does anyway. Most cases have a tight cast size regardless. AA6 needed more characters in most of it's cases if anything, most of the case set-ups/structures themselves felt way too simplistic.

>Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney can only be appreciated if you played a Layton game before since that's what the primary style is
I hadn't played a Layton game at the time and I still enjoyed it a fair bit. It's banter between characters and general atmosphere and mood has still yet to be topped (feel like the mainline series has actually worse at that over time personally, probably not a popular opinion though), despite it's problems with the overarching plot and too much handholding.
>>
>>387936352
Yeah, I remember it. Don't think it was as bad as the coffin in 6-2 though.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if it was an iFly suitcase.
>>
>>387936748
Professor Layton is my shit, but you gotta admit that story could have been way better if it weren't for the medieval setting that turned out to be a huge convoluted retarded plotline
>>
>>387936941

Completely agree especially because channelling and magic is canon for Wright.

It should have been Layton's one adventure where the magic was real.
>>
>>387937069
I could have definitely gone for a crossover in phoenix' america or some exotic layton setting, I don't get why medieval to begin with.

You gotta admit the mechanic about asking a row of witness was pretty good though.
>>
>>387936398
>>387936701
got it. Thanks bros.
>>
>>387936941
Don't disagree with that at all, though the Storyteller's testimony at the end was so ridiculous that I found it sorta hilarious to be honest. Like I said it's mainly the dialogue and atmosphere that sold the game to me, no other AA game had me that immersed in it's setting and cast. I think Phoenix & Maya as a pair were at their best in that game too actually and I'm largely sorta indifferent to them as a pair (don't mind it, but the handful of times Phoenix was with someone else like Pearl or Franziska or something weren't just more memorable due to being different, I genuinely feel that they were just more entertainingly written)
>>
>>387937358
Just note that the download is pretty huge (around 4 GB)
>>
>>387937451
Most of that is music though, right? I think there's a base download that severely cuts it.
>>
>>387937297
>You gotta admit the mechanic about asking a row of witness was pretty good though.

Man, I wish they implemented that in SoJ. There probably weren't enough witnesses to use that mechanic, though
