/v/ tends to be pretty casual so I wanted to pick something people at least knew to spark conversation. It's very different from the PS2/Wii remake though, I would definitely consider it its own game.

I'm a huge fan of the horror atmosphere of the original, and the remake just drops it completely.

Yeah, it's great. Survival horror first person surrealist roguelike RPG is just such a prefect combination. Easily the best console roguelike ever made, too. They really nail the item system down. Sound seems to be fucked up on the video you linked though. The music is a pretty big part of the atmosphere, and it's just completely missing in that video.

Gunparade March and Earth Seeker. I played a little ES and it was alright. I didn't get far enough to go to any new areas though, just the first area with the Statue of Liberty.

I really need to play Gunparade March. People say that the dialogue is harder than usual for Japanese games though, so I wonder if I can understand it.

One of the biggest JRPG series in Japan during the early 90's, unfortunately none except that GBA spinoff have ever been translated.

Still really want to play 2 and Kabuki-Den, but it seems like the fan translators don't really care for PC Engine/PCE-CD games. Ys IV is the only translated game I can think of, but there probably are a few others by now.
