Can anyone actually run Snake Eater and Shadow of the Colossus at acceptable frames, or is ps2 emulation just a meme?

You kidding? It runs much better than it does on the PS2, my dude.

Don't ask for settings, I can't remember what they were when I was playing it.
>>
>>387897949
I can run both of those games at real 60fps. You might want to upgrade your PC or stop being a retard.
>>
>>387897949
PCSX2 is just a piece of shit emulator, it never gets any better, and nobody else is doing PS2 emulation (which is strange since the PS2 was like the most popular console ever, and most of them aren't working any more because they were built of paper mache and they destroyed discs even when they worked)
Fucking PS3 emulation is already outpacing PCSX2
>>
>>387898159
>>387898027
A whole fucking 60fps while I can barely manage ~20. What're your PC builds?
>>
>>387897949

That shit runs at a silky smooth 12 FPS on a PS2.

>>
>>387898264
I guess I kind of worded that wrong. I just don't want the constant distortion of sound and slight slowdown. Could be my PC is just shit.
>>387898363
GHz? My 2500k is at 3.3
>>
>>387898228

4690K overclocked to 4.1 GHz. GPU barely matters for most emulation. I have SLI 970s, but that's irrelevant.

You want that beefy processor son!

I have two sealed ps2s from a police auction that i got for $10 total right before the ps3 came out. Shit sells for $500 on ebay, gonna sell em before ps5 comes out and pay for it with the profits

> My 2500k is at 3.3
Why wouldn't you OC a k series chip? It's time to upgrade anyhow, you won't hold 60fps with those. You clearly didn't set up the emulator properly if you're getting shitty FPS though.

>>387898469
>GPU barely matters for most emulation.
It matters for high resolution especially for these two games.

>>387898527
But none of the HD remasters are playable without glaring issues, and most of them just don't work. I keep up with all these emulators and RPCS3 is a joke compared to PCSX2 even for the games that are completely playable. And they will most likely never run faster because the system its emulating is more complex. Just look at Okami as an example of a game running almost twenty times slower.

MGSV:
partial CRC
half-pixel offset to fix misaligned bloom
60fps patch
30fps for cutscenes patch if you have a toaster
MTVU

SOTC:
bit more complicated to get visuals right since it's always misaligned somehow
MTVU
overclock the EE for 60fps if you have a good cpu

>>387899235
Yea nobody made a patch to remove the DOF in FF12, I don't think the emulator guys can fix it either. You can disable it in some of the other Square games though like KH or FFX. And some games you can force/enable progressive scan or use skipdraw which helps a lot.

3.5GHz isn't anything impressive nowadays, besides it means nothing without knowing what CPU you actually have. In any case, even first-gen i5s and i7s could hit around 4GHz.

It's not hard at all my man. Here's a good guide I used to get my 2500k to 4.5

Is there such a huge difference in requirements between different PS2 games? I only ever emulated P3FES so far but my 4.7GHz 4790k only hits like 10% load and the game runs perfectly at 8x resolution.
>>
>>387897949
Meme does not mean "things I don't like", so no, it is not a meme.
>>
>>387903683
Yes. The difference between MGS3 at 60fps and Persona 3 is literally a decade's worth of hardware.

I mean, that's not all that much in terms of CPU, considering how slowly things have been improving in terms of IPC and clock.

>>387904014
Didn't bother researching shaders I guess. 8x resolution is just a single setting and it was well worth it on a 3840x2160 monitor.
>>
>>387903683
It's the emulator that doesn't work right with some games
Armored Core 3 runs like ass, even though MGS3 is fine (when set up right)

It's a meme, I have a fairly powerful gaming laptop and still can't run any PS2 games at an acceptable speed.
>>
Dude even a PS2 cant run SotC at acceptable frames.
>>
>>387903683
Some games tax the PS2 to the max so that even when played on hardware you will get frame drops. Also some game engines can do hacky shit (normally to get more out of the hardware) that ends up less optimised in emulation causing more taxing requirements.

>>387904334

>>387904310
Armored Core 3 is a weird beast. In hardware mode it runs like dogshit unless you turn off depth emulation which gives 60fps at the cost of being able to see effects through buildings.

Software though I've been able to run flawlessly. Armored Core 2/Another Age is also perfectly playable in hardware mode, even runs better than the console in some areas (notably destroying that giantass tank).
>>
>>387897949
Most of the games I emulate have acceptable frames; I just wish that textures would quit glitching and vanishing.
>>
>>387904334
>i5 dual core @2.5ghz
>740m
>gaming laptop
I hope you are just baiting.
And even with that setup you could still run some of the more optimised games at 2x native with no real frame drops if setup correctly.
>>
>>387904014
With the static res HUDs it's going to look like shit with anything other than native res and an accurate CRT shader, which we'd have to wait for a libretro core to have.
>>
>>387905474
>accurate CRT shader
oxymoron
>>
get a better pc, the games run awesome
>>
>>387897949
I played SotC just fine like 5 years ago on an emulator, so sounds like your PC is shit.
>>
>>387905824
What were your specs 5 years ago? If my fucking PC is that outdated, I'm killing myself.
>>
>>387905271
What are those games and what's the correctly set it up?
>>
>>387906795
Games like Persona 3/4, FFX, Gust games etc. As for the general correct setup, just download the latest dev build and set the speedhack presets to aggressive or aggressive plus while enabling MTVU and the GPU settings to 2x native and either hardware DX11 or OpenGL. Is also good practice to check the wiki for specific settings for games in case there are hacks you have to enable or their is a specific setting it doesn't like.
>>
>>387904334
>powerful
>gaming
>laptop

How could those three words be used together?

Anyone got a link to the translated FFXII IZJS?
