I have no interest investing time in a dead game, userbase is almost nonexistent after a few months. Too many tryhards who have been playing tekken and nothing else in their entire life.

The bears are very heavily matchup-focused. You can't just get your combos and frame data down and do well, you need to intricately know how your enemy will play to do well. I'd say identify who you run into most online, and come up with a thorough gameplan on how to beat them consistently. Everything is unsafe so this is much more important than your average character. The "smaller" roster (which is barely smaller actually considering how many of TTT2's characters were clones and semi-clones) isn't really a problem per se as big roster size has its disadvantages. While Tekken 7 is a lazy effort with barely anything new in it, that is kind of understandable because the hardcore fanbase is fairly conservative, wants their skills to mostly transport to the next game, gets a boner for buying the same game packeted as a new one for full price etc. etc. However that makes all the missing stuff totally inexcusable, i.e. a lot of the customization options (T7 customization is horseshit compared to TTT2 which was already a downgrade from T6), replays, for that matter Tag mode (in before "b-but this isn't a Tag game!" why the fuck we need a separate spin-off series for a Tag mode anway) , some of the single player modes as well I guess though I don't care for them myself.

I just started playing Tekken a few days ago. I've been watching a lot of videos, reading frame data, learning hit-confirms, sitting in practice and learning all my buttons, and optimizing different counter-hits and launcher combo's damage.

Only have around 7 hours in it so far, but I feel like my 1800 total SF hours (SF4/SFV) has my mindset in the right place.

It seems like a really good game.

Classic Tekken cycle. Game comes out and sells massive amounts on capcom hate and nostalgia (because they just rehash the same roster again and again with the same moves and just up the graphics without doing anything new artsyle wise) but completely falls flat in the competitive scene after like 6 months and just fades away and dies (see tekken 6 and TT2) because ppl actually start to play it and realize it is the same boring shit.

Tekken still sucks. Nothing new here. People have know this for over a decade now.

I dropped tekken after the shitpile that was 6, 5 did some good things but 4 sucked ass.
