not really no, game is terribly linear until the last 5% of the main story - when it then gives you an airship which allows you do go back and do a bunch of sidequests.

The game never 'gets good', if you dont like what you've played thus far.

On the world map in all FFs for the vast majority of the game you only have one destination, exactly like FF10. There's a period or two where you actually go exploring for side content, exactly like FF10.

FFX still has one of the best battle systems in final fantasy
