It's almost as if that's how every single social link in every single game works or something. I wouldn't even call it dick sucking, just listening to their issues. You're massively overstating the problem here.

They were never retarded in the first place, but I guess, but there's no way around that. It's either have the S-Links be seperate or have to write multiple permutations of each dialogue depending on S-link rank for each character. It's really hard to justify the time investment to do that. It's not like it's immersion breaking or anything. The s-links are mostly about fleshing out the characters and learning more about them. Apart from a handful of examples, none of the characters go against their s-link characterization in the main story.
