It's over
CRPGs are doomed,Doomed, boohoo.
Honest question, what RPG games give magic the same utility, power, and progression that BG had? There was something special about watching your piddly little mage go from shooting 1 tiny magic missle to casually summoning demigods and freezing time with a snap.

Morrowind ironically did this with basic melee combat because you went from a low HP dweeb who moved at the speed of molasses and could hit a mudcrab 1 times out of 20 to a roaring god of vengeance needing at least 8 load times per step who could swing a sword so hard the game would crash.

>RPGs peaked 15 years ago
>XBOX and PS consoles emerged 15 years ago
Coincidence? I think not. Consoles dumbed down everything. It stands to reason that pre-console CRPGs, a genre of gaming that demanded a significant IQ in the gamer, would take a significant hit from the dumbing down of gaming due to consoles.
