dl the game fully patched ahead of time
sign up for account
DL VPN
run vpn, sign into a JP one
run the game and sign into the game

and your on with just that, but to actually use your own internet and not the VPN you do need 1 more step thats not too complicated, google dragons dogma online vpn workaround for it, you just gotta type a little into command prompt

Yes. You can talk to Selene after completing Duchess in Distress.
But getting Mercedes and completing Duchess is a pain, because you need to anger Aelinore prior to engaging the quest.
