EOIII is my favorite but EOIV is still a damn good game, you really can't go wrong with the franchise unless you're playing storymode in one of the Untold games.

EOIV if you've never played.
EO2U if you haven't the ability to get DS games like EO3 (If it's character customization you want to play classic mode, same for EOU. The story mode is actually good in 2U but it's not really a custom themed one).
EOU is alright.
The original 2 are somewhat archaic but if you'd like that then sure.
