Have your strongest 2 guys block the narrow passages leading into the starting area. Fireballs don't hit them there, so they're safe to blockade that entire part. Get ryoma on it. You can then basically ignore the blocked passages and leave those guys to defend on auto-pilot

For the rest of your units: they will be fighting the entire mission at 1 HP. Live with the fact. Don't bother healing them, it's impossible to keep up with fireball damage. As a result, you have to ORKO any enemy that gets within range - leaving any enemy alive in range will allow them to kill your 1 HP units.

I actually ditched Ryoma (and Takumi) as soon as I got him, but this seems useful.
My biggest issue is how the initial spawns have both tomes and silver weapons, so Felicia can't tank until those guys get cleared out, and 1-2 range weapons are mostly pretty bad.
