Adam was actually super intelligent, he just made retarded decisions due to the sake of studying humanity and wanting to understand them. Adam could have evolved into a god and ruled the world.
>>
>>387842069
Of course he's retarded. He's wearing a neck tie like a bow tie.

Eve is a good boy who dindu nuffin and just wanted to try extra, extra hard.
>>
>>387842069
Not really retarded, just irrelevant in the grand scheme of things

kek I never even noticed that, jesus what a humanaboo

He wasn't retarded, mostly a pawn of N2 and got too enthusiastic about humans.

Holy shit, I never noticed that. What a great detail.
>>
>>387842923
If you think about it, his first emotion was hate, being forced to fight androids that hated him. He's a machine and machines have a mindless, dogged obsession with one thing and Adam just chose hatred. I doubt he'd care about ruling the world
>>

Retarded post.

He disconnected himself from the system because he wanted to experience what "Death" was like. It's already revealed at the end of the game that there was a backup copy of himself still within the machine database. He didn't really "Die" just the version of himself that separated in that room and fought 2B to the death.
>>
>>387844565
I'm pretty sure that's everyone's opinion unless you're a waifu fag
>>
>>387845323
Yeah, but his reasoning was retarded. Also they also went to "machine heaven/planet" or some shit and wanted 9S to come with them

>>387845504
I thought most people who played this game were waifufags? All I ever see is "I WANT TO FUCK 2B AND A2 SO HARD!!!" or if you're a shotafag you'll want 9S, frankly I just thought 9S was a better character all around. Has nothing to do with attractiveness.

Eve was more passionate than anyone else in the game, well 9S was pretty passionate about 2B.
>>
>>387844565
Of course he's better, betweent he two he's the only one really relevant to plot. You could skip A2 entirely and nothing would be missed except the minor point of the machine village getting killed. But at that point it doesn't matter anyway
>>
>>387846323

I was so hype for 2B to still be present in A2s route as hallucinations of memories or some other schizophrenic shit but all we got was the one scene in the beginning and nothing except the one sentence in the 9s end
>>
>>387846096
That's like calling someone with a brain tumor a retard. The whole point was that the AI was damaged and fractured.
As far as the greater Patriot AI system is concerned, they were definitely not retards, since everything went precisely in their favour throughout MGS2.

What? They literally (LITERALLY) are antagonists.

They take that speech seriously because it has uncanny parallels to the real world.

>>387842069

His desire to experience true death was a logical conclusion of his hardon for humanity and hatred.
>>
antagonists have a problem with the story's hero and/or moral

Villains are just plain evil, vile and generally not pleasant to the universe they're written into.
>>
>>387842069
the whole first half of this game is retarded animu garbage (A+B) but as soon as Route C starts it goes into pure fucking kino territory and it easily became one of my fav games of all time
It made me feel like a little kid all over again.

>>
Who created Yorha and the androids that use the black boxes as their cores?
>>
>>387847979
>They take that speech seriously because it has uncanny parallels to the real world.

despite the speaker being a retarded fuck?
>>
>>387848176
theyre machines
>>
>>387848124
He probably read a bunch of books about human fashion and I guess that was the most appealing style to him.

>>387847992
So then my usage of antagonist in this instance was right, fuck off.

>>387848176
Humans before they were wiped out, and then sent androids to space to pretend that humans were still alive and living on the money. It was all one big lie, humanity was extinct long before they went to the moon.
>>
>>387848191
Why does that matter? What's important is what hes saying and how it relates to reality.

Maybe that's important in the context of MGS2 but that's not why that speech is so well known.
>>
>>387848353
Did I reply to you?
>>
>>387848406
>Why does that matter?
makes the speech less believable.

>What's important is what hes saying and how it relates to reality.
not at the time
>>
>>387848176
Humans created the original androids and those androids went on to make Yorha when the humans died out. Eventually yorha decided to make black box androids because they thought it was cruel to create actual androids only to use them as cannon fodder.
>>
>>387848062
Without A+B the rest of the game would lack impact because you'd only see the ass end of the characters and their arcs. Also would diminish the overall theme of the game if the Adam and Eve bits were removed because you couldn't draw a parallel between them, 2B and 9S and how death can affect someone, and how taking on the world yourself can only lead in your self destruction. It also is very important in establishing that the Machines and Yorha Androids are of the same origins, with the machine cores that contain the ghost of humanity within.
>>
>>387848176
don't listen to retards
read canon info
https://mintychu.dreamwidth.org/1371.html#cutid1
also yorha existed for less than 10 years, Labo incident from this script happened in 11937
>>
>>387848176
Other androids.

What I don't understand is what the entire point of the Yorha program was in the first place. To give androids a purpose? But then why kill all of them at the end? I don't get it.
>>
>>387848124

>character chasing the truth wearing superfluous glasses
>character running away from the truth obscuring eyes

do you even pottery 101
>>
>>387848553
Yeah you're right, but I thought Adam & Eve could have had a better motivation and design. I mean, I don't even know their motivation to be honest. And they looked like complete gayboys from a boysband.
>>
>>387848176
If you want an answer that keeps the mystery intact, just leave it at "The android illuminati"

If you want a more boring answer that cites canon supplementary material. An andoid by the name of Zianna created Yorha to fool the androids into believing humanity wasnt extinct, so they'd have a reason to live on.
It initially wasn't supposed to function in cycles, but a prototype 9S learned of the plan and that humanity was all gone so he went crazy and implemented the cycle system in yorha so that they'd all keep getting killed.
Or something like that, I don't quite remember.
>>
>>387848601
Did you even play the game? That was 9S whole reason for existing, he wanted to discover the truth about Yorha and the machines, that's all he cared about at the end of the game. He wanted to know why he was created and what his purpose was as well.
>>
>>387848512
Makes sense. I'm assuming the rest of the older models were killed off (except A2 and the current commander) to keep this a secret? Or did the commander just memory wipe whoever wasn't on the mission with A2 and slapped a black box into them?
>>
>>387848601
YoRHa was designed to be killed off so that there would never be anyone who finds out that human's are extinct

Would the station get blown the fuck up every cycle? That's the thing that confuses me the most. I can't imagine that'd be an easy thing to remake over and over.
>>
Wish we had learned more about the aliens who created Adam and Eve, would have been interesting to delve into that. Also how machines gave birth to androids that look like humans, like remember when Adam and Eve were born by a giant mass of robots humping each other? How does that work?
>>
>>387848795
YoRHa is a very new thing.
A2 was simply a member of prototype squad who was dropped into a suicide mission and not expected to survive but she did and learned to survive really well.
>>
>>387848496
How "believable" the speech is doesn't fucking matter when the real relevance of the speech is it's commentary on real life. Since the character is fictional it doesn't fucking matter how believable it is.

Couldn't they just not make them in the first place? Or not tell them about the humans that were already dead and didn't matter?
>>
>>387848918
iirc it was originally intended not to
>>
>>387848801
This line of logic doesn't make any sense. Most of the androids in the game were created after the humans were already extinct in order to fight for Yorha. Yorha was created to perpetuate a lie that humans are on the moon. The androids who created Yorha knew that humanity was extinct. So who the fuck were they trying to hide it from? And why did they bother to unleash the virus and put an end to the Yorha project?
>>
If Metal Gear Solid were ever to get a 6th game, I want Yoko Taro to direct it.
>>
>>387848701
There is no cycles, Number Nine simply implemented a killswitch to destroy the YoRHa and keep the secret from being discovered.

Within the context of the game, the character is not believeable
>>
>>387849085

There's been at least 14 cycles, the setting is the "14th Machine War" afterall.
>>
>>387849018
Androids worship humans, they were created to protect them and to further their existence. When they died out, many androids began actively losing morale and sense of purpose, so they devised a plan to keep on giving the androids a sense of purpose. Of course this ends up being bullshit, as the androids start forming their own identities, and start living for themselves. Unfortunately, the plan had already been put into motion.
>>
>>387848589
Thanks for the link friend. I really do wish all this info and world building could make it into the main games.
>>
>>387849047
>in order to fight for Yorha
no
they were created to fight off alien invaders
zinnia, other directors of satellites and android command are probably the only one who know the truth
yorha is a very recent creation aimed to reinforce android morale, by all means they are a glorified propaganda squad that was designed to go down in flames after establishing fake about humans on moon
>>
>>387849018
YoRHa were created as propaganda for the war effort, androids knew humans were dead but the entire point of YoRHa was to trick them into thinking otherwise

>>387849047
Zinnia created YoRHa and it was top secret, the only person who found out was no.9 who installed the backdoor to perfect the plan before they both died
>>
>>387849192
there's been 14 wars, and each was was different, look at the fucking timeline
>>
>>387849114

to maintain subordination inside the yorha and finish off infected units
they by themselves are victims of this situation too, redhead is bonkers and 2B is only sane because she loves 9S
and only yorha were designed to be wiped
>>
>>387849931

Don't trust everything you are told just because it comes from a 'trusted' source. The game even namedrops books all about Paranoia and the flaws of language.
>>
NOTHING MATTERS ANYMORE
>>
>>387849882
Only YoRHa were designed to be wiped out who are just a specialist squad of 100-200 members, E units operate to kill deserters within YoRHa to stop any potential information leaking
>>
>>387850080
>Don't trust everything you are told just because it comes from a 'trusted' source

the fucking AI is not trustworthy
>>
>>387849262
I dunno how I feel about no.9 setting up the back door. I guess that makes what happens to 9S even more tragic because his original form set up everything that caused 9S' downfall.
>>
>>387850134

That's the point, it's fucking with Raiden.
>>
>>387850178
you may say that 9S is alpha and omega of this game, literally a beginning and the end, he is the one who started all this but his project had consequences he really could not predict like machine network actually using backdoor to steal android data and evolve and observe the androids, getting more humanlike in the process
and then, by observing misfortunes of 9S himself, N2 understood the futility of conflict which is a huge part of what led the game to ultimately a happy ending for main character
>>
>>387850041
>>387850123
Wait but then why was 2B(E) assigned to kill 9S? He never really goes rogue or deserts.
>>
>>387850764
There's some secondary stuff floating about where he does, and gets bopped by 2B.
>>
>>387850764
The very first ending with 9S you can get is him deserting before even meeting 2B because he's too inquisitive.
Also from timeline:
>9S is initially created
>few months later a male-only yorha squad goes bonkers and starts a coup, survivors fuse with machines and rise a machine city from the bottom of the ocean, causing immense damage
It seems that he always was causing a huge fuckload of troubles because he's super-advanced.
>>
>>387850764
Because he's a top of the range model he has a natural curiosity that leads him to find out the truth, so an E unit is assigned to kill him whenever he is suspected of finding out what is really happening. Of course things get difficult when 2B has feelings for him which breaks her own psyche
>>
I don't think I've ever seen a villain pass up so many opportunities to achieve their goals for retarded reasons (mostly dramatic effect) as Sephiroth.
>>
>>387843197
woulnyou agreeeeeeeeeeee
>>
I really like that you can consider the event of the game some sort of a "trial" for machine lifeforms. It could potentially lead to utter annihilation for both sides, but because of a few androids, their pods and machine network's conceptual personality they managed to overcome this trial and their childhood has ended.

I remember how Nikolai Dybowski described his core idea of Pathologic as trial (plague) descending upon a town and i really feel the same concept can be applied to Automata.
>>
I honestly think Ending E completely ruined Automata.

Why the fuck did Taro make a "happy forevermore" ending?
>>
>>387851915
He's said that he got attached to the characters through writing them in an interview somewhere and that he thought it was that natural path to have a happy ending. Makes sense when you consider the first game's Ending E was also a happy ending

Why does 2B remember killing 9S over and over?
Isn't her memory wiped out between cycles?

And why do Devola and Popola show up in ending B when she's strangling him?
>>
>>387854083
Her memory is never wiped and YoRHa is only a singular cycle, 2B and 9S become functional 3 years before the events of the game. Is N2 watching 2B strangle 9S, alluding to the fact that they have been watching his actions the whole game. If you pay close attention N2 also shows up on the mothership

pods take care of them and can pretty much build anything
A2, 2B and 9S are all friendly to each other

Guilty Gear's That Man
>Refound Magic and discuss with Fredrick and Aria about it.
>All of them come to the conclusion that they can't let the government get a hold of it otherwise it'll fuck the entire world up for possible centuries via militarized magic.
>Aria getting worst and is going to die soon.
>So is Fredrick.
>Decide to not ask or even tell them that he's experimenting on both of them with magic.
>Shit ends up hitting the fan so hard that he hard that he has no choice but to turn in his research about magic into the government.
>To keep humanity in check he turns Fredrick into a god and Aria into a fucking mecha.
>Goes even further to establish Gears, which ironically became the single greatest threat humanity had to ever face before.
>Gears single handedly almost wipe out the entire human race until Fredrick (Now Sol) decides to join forces with the humans.
>Aria (Now Justice) loses her humanity and soul and begins to wreck even more havoc by supercharging the Gears.
>This all leads to a literal century of non-stop war and destruction before Sol is forced to kill Justice against his will.
>Meanwhile That Man is just fucking around in the Backyard with I-no trying to figure out how to unfuck literally everything he caused.
>Still believes he did the right thing because Aria inevitably was resurrected and Sol and Aria have reunited.
>Still believes he did the right thing even though Sol is a ticking time-bomb now and that at any given day now he's going to have to throw himself in the backyard or he's going to ignite a Magical reaction with his body that's so strong it'll literally delete the Earth and all it's inhabitants from existence.

Is it because humans didn't want androids to lose hope or something? Or they simply wanted the aliens to fuck off and die with them, and they needed to boos android morale to achieve that?

https://mintychu.dreamwidth.org/1371.html

>No.9: There was a risk of information leaking out from that satellite base that was meant to manage the human server on the moon.
No.9: That's why I decided to rewrite his plan.
No.9: I rigged the thirteenth base to have a back door that'll open at a certain time.
No.9: The base'll be destroyed by an attack from machine lifeforms, at which point only the server on the moon will be left with transmission capabilities.

The lie was kept alive to prevent androids form losing the will to live, since they were built to serve humans, they would have no purpose if they knew the truth

Some shady group of androids who run things behind the scenes.

>Although I find it weird that an android can feel compassion and develop all these emotions.
Not sure why considering how emotive every android in the game is. Devola and Popola in the first game already established that they're capable of a wide set of emotions. It's the machines that are kinda iffy about what they're doing is actually real emotion or just them replicating human behavior.
>>
>>387856389
At the end of the game you see 2B and 9S getting rebuilt by the machines, though I don't know what the point of rebuilding them is. Not sure if their memories will be intact, also not sure what they would do once they're rebuilt by the machines. Yorha is gone.

2B and 9S made their purpose each other, even before that. Without Yorha or fighting for humanity they're free from the cycle and they can just be together.

It's from the first Nier.
Basically a virus started infecting humanity and to escape they came up with this technology that separates the body from the soul. For this they created the androids, or Replicants - and the Gestalt, the shit containing the human soul so that when they found a cure they could return and survive. Shit went sideways though and they went extinct.

or something like that

>>
>>387857708

>>
>>387857445
Yeah, they live happily ever after.
>>
>>387857451
It's the main plot point of the first game. Do not read if you plan on playing Nier Project Gestalt was a last ditch effort by humanity to save everyone from the disease Caim brought to our world at the end of Drakengard ending E by separating body and soul, then creating new bodies called Replicants. The main character of Nier is the only succesful case of this, and can produce the magical resource needed to maintain the gestalts and the replicants. Gestalts over time start to go berserk outside of their bodies, becoming the primary enemies you face in the game. The replicants gain sentience, and Gestalt Nier kidnaps Replicant Nier's daughter Yonah to save his own daughter. Replicant Nier doesn't like that very much and kills Gestalt Nier, effectively ending humanity's last chance of survival.

Pascal was peaceful because the Nu-Network went ham on the permutations and made a bunch of wacky shit just for giggles. Having a bunch of data on human philosophers/theologists probably made the network curious since it was already obsessed with humanity an all so maybe some of that weird philosophy ended up making a few arms of the network a little too thoughtful for their own good.

If a machine broken from the network has its core die its data isn't recovered by the network but I would assume they could maybe rip out some important data from the storage in the body or maybe the core itself and make due with what they got.

What epiphany are you talking about here?

On another note, still related to N2 - Why did they want to fire the rocket at the moon? Reading the wiki says they "wanted to wipe out humanity", but certainly they knew humanity was long gone?

Why do they have a change of heart and instead choose to send an Ark with, what I assume, is the memories of every machine (including androids? 2B and 9S's as well)?

And finally, why does 9S look to the sky and say "so that's where you were, 2B"? Is he saying that, since he knows about this machine garden of eden thing, 2B is there and he finds comfort in knowing she's okay in machine heaven?

>Why did they want to fire the rocket at the moon?
They wanted to rob the androids of their will to fight by removing the human server for good.
Now that i think about it, do they (N2) specifically name the purpose of the cannon or was it something 9S just assumed?

>why does 9S look to the sky and say "so that's where you were, 2B"?
Hallucinating, directly talking to the sky or the fact that he was stabbed by 2B's sword adn finally "found her"
>>
>>387860783
>reading the wiki

N2 wanted to fire a rocket at the moon to destroy the Human server. Once the server was gone N2 would pretty much win the war.
N2's final epiphany/evolution was realizing that fighting was stupid and pointless. This happens because of all the data it accumulated recently from Adam, Eve, 2B, 9S, and A2.

The "epiphany" I'm talking about was N2's change of heart in 9S' death throes.

That's the major problem of the game, there is no interesting enemies in fact.
The only good part of the game is the interrogations about machines and androids and their life purpose.

It's stated in 9S's ending if you kill A2. They decided they'd rather use the canon as an ark to find a place where they can live in peace.
>>
>>387862350
N2's purpose and the reason it made so many evolution vectors was because it wanted to break out of the logic error that they should endlessly perpetuate the war.
Just creating a tower to fire a rocket at the human server is proof enough that the machine network managed to evolve past it's logic error.

I felt like 9S was only asked because he had suffered so much - kinda like Frodo going to Valinor at the end of LOTR, and Son Goku going away with Shenlong at the end of GT.
>>
>>387863151
Remember at the end when Adam asks if 9S would join them? He wanted 9S to come with them on the "ark" so they could find their version of heaven or paradise I guess so to speak, just a place where they could live in peace for eternity.
>>
Yoko Taro should write a Metal Gear game.
>>
>>387856525
Seeing as the emotions all the yorha androids feel stem from the machine cores, I'd say the machines are also capable of such feelings. The difference between the machines and the androids is that the androids aren't shackled to an overbearing AI. Once the AI starts to let loose you get shit like Pascal's village and the amusement park robots.

It's almost as if society as a whole makes decisions and does things in ways that might make the sum of the parts seem damaged and fractured.

Woah...

I really wonder what was up with the Watcher imagery on him, maybe it was the AI trying to see if it could have an effect or because he went of the deep end on rage juices he accessed something he wasn't supposed to?

i feel like the guy needs a fantasy/sci-fi setting to fully express himself

MGS is too grounded for the stuff he writes imho
>>
>>387863828
I felt like there was nothing wrong with Pascal's village, the machines in that village really were trying to live normal peaceful lives. They educated the children, and the adults had kids/families. They even had the classic nuclear family with a husband and wife role. All the machines even spoke normally, and acted like humans. In a way Pascal's village was the closest thing in the game to machines living peaceful together and acting like a human society.

Really fucking sad when Pascal's village is destroyed and Pascal's memory is wiped and you just find her standing in the ruins of her village selling machine parts to get cash. I only erased Pascal's memories because I felt bad for her, she didn't deserve all that and I didn't feel right making her live with it.
>>
>>387863763
The ending bit says it only contains the memories of "the foolish machine lifeforms" Whether or not this includes ALL the Yorha androids or just 9S depends on your interpretation. Yorha Androids origins can be traced back to the machine lifeforms, whether or not that makes them a part of that group isn't very clear. Of course it could also only mean the normal machines, and them asking 9S to join could be them granting him a mercy after all he's been through.

I don't know
>Conspiracy shit and twists?
check
>deeper than normal tragic characters?
check
>mixing gameplay mechanics with plot and the game's overall theme?
check

I feel like if Taro wrote an MGS game it'd be full of "the ladder" tier scenes. Nier Automata certainly had a lot of moments where I found myself thinking "holy shit this is awesome" and I kept remembering all those early MGS games and some sections of MGS4 like the final boss fight and the microwave scene.
>>
>>387857050
The machines don't give a flying fuck about the war by the time the game happens, they are forced by the crazy AI and if it really did blast off to space then they don't really have a need to keep fighting, did you forge tthat the forest kingdom only attacked you because they were isolationists to the absolute extreme? The rest who attack have gone genuinely insane or are defending themselves
>>
>>387855182
Hey at least Sol still wants to cave his face in for all of that
>>
>>387864191
There wasn't a single thing wrong with Pascal's village at all. It was the result of the human idea of wanting to live in peace developing in that group of machines and them living it out. The amusement park robots are similar in their wish for peace, but go about it in a different way by idolizing the "perfect disney world" kind of culture.
>>
>>387860048
No, only those that were related to the Yorha project and thanks to Jackass making that report, both machines and androids know about their incredibly fucked up situation so now they don't have a reason to fight outside of small groups of retards

If 9s is such a problem that he needs to get killed every time, why don't they just fix him like they did to past androids?

I mean the androids serve almost the same purpose and cause no issues

>>
>>387866735
To be fair there were tapes around that stated that this situation has happened before, and it didn't work. Joel would have done what he did even if you didn't find the tapes because he's a selfish man but they did at least try to splash some grey morality in there.

That's not the point bro. She could've just had Joel black bagged and drug outside by like 10 guys and taken like 20 miles away if she wanted him to live.

She could've not told him, until driving him far away.

She could've immediately taken him to another location where he couldn't interfere before he even woke up.

She could've just dumped his ass by the giraffes with a note explaining it.

She could've just drowned him in the river he fell in.

She's a fucking retard. She leaves him in the same building, puts one dumbass kid on him, and explains her entire plan before it goes into action. She's a fucking dipshit, no wonder the fireflies lost.

your saying its okay to not rescue billions of people because someone had faith in you you might think billions are worth saving.

>>
>>387868960
I'm not saying she's wrong to do it you fucking retarded faggot I'm saying for a leader of a guerilla warfare operation she should know better than to have left Joel at her base for literally no reason. She had knowledge of Joel's lost kid, she should've foreseen him getting attached and made steps to ensure her plan went off right by removing him from the scene.

She didn't have to kill him to get him away from the operation site, she couple easily had him moved to an outpost 10 miles away and then left him in a warehouse. She could've just kept him in a cell or confined in a locked room with multiple guards until the operation was over.

She knew what he was capable of, it's why she picked him in the first place. Joel is a god damn monster, pretty much everyone knows him, and the ones that don't learn.

I understand her motivation, as well as why she felt he needed to survive so she could relieve her guilt, but she could've very easily rigged the game in her favor and she didn't. What the fuck would Joel have done if she moved him 10 miles away and then told him? Fucking fly there?

N2's growth process was very slow when the network was fractured because it spread itself apart to learn about many different factors of life at once. Once it restructured itself and came out of dormancy, it was able to begin evolving rapidly at an exponential rate, especially once Pod 042 installed a self-evolution program on it that quickened its pace of learning even more.

Also N2 was in love with 9S.

Two reasons:

One, 9S is too good at this job and the Commander considers the benefit of his intelligence worth the risk.

Two, the Science and Research bunker where he was developed got destroyed.

The emotions of Yorha units does not stem from the machine core, you're either thinking of corruption or trying to fill in gaps of data yourself. Yoko himself made it quite clear that the core is isolated from the android's mind and that it is only possible to merge the core's data with the host androids if someone actually forces it, it doesn't just leak out emotions into the android normally.

But Machines are capable of feelings, yes.

Coming out of dormancy is definitely the wrong way to phrase that because the network didn't simply put parts of itself offline it cut itself up and rearranged its entire logic process in order to intentionally make itself dumber and more erratic. Which then formed into what was later called N2.
