I got Portal today, and finished it today. Why is it so short?

In my opinion 2 feels like it's made by people who didn't "get" Portal. Everything's redesigned and it's bigger and louder and flashier and more impressive, with humour that's super in-your-face and bombastic, which just kind of ignores that Portal was a quiet and subtle game. I kind of roll my eyes whenever someone calls something "Reddit", but when it's stated that Portal technology was accidentally invented as a way to more efficiently move shower curtains I think I kind of understand what they mean.

If you do download and try it out, make sure you go into "Bonus Levels" and pick the "TFV map pack", INSTEAD of picking New Game.
The TFV map pack is basically more polished versions of the same maps you'd play if you press New Game.

Besides the fact (another anon pointed out) that the shower curtain joke was attached to the original, GLaDOS stands for Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System. But I kind of feel like Portal was the genesis of the Reddit stereotype, that Portal was one of the things that made this sort of dorky-irreverent humor popular. As you said, though, Portal was a lot subtler, particularly than anything that came after: consider the handling of the cake ("first you will be baked, then there will be cake," and "the cake is a lie" was scrawled on the walls where someone had clearly hidden out and starved to death), versus the stupid horseshit about lemons in the sequel.
