You realize the Galaxy class was made as more or less a space fortress, right? They just put families on it to make it seem more friendly. Starfleet plays innocent and friendly, but the truth is the UFoP are still the top dog in both defense and offense. They were okay with giving up cloaking because they straight up didn't need it. The Defiant was the first starfleet warship, it was weapons and armor with everything else stripped down. Just because galaxy class ships were well equipped doesn't mean they were made for war. War ships don't have children, schools, and recreational facilities. If the federation sent a ship full of families off to war I don't think they'd get quite so many people signing up for duty, and they sure as fuck wouldn't risk the flag ship, a symbol of peace and diplomacy unless it was a last resort.

Much like how the films were largely action-focused, the game eschews a lot of opportunities for Federation-style diplomacy in favor of an action/combat focus.

The Defiant was the first ship built solely with battle in mind, but that doesn't mean other ships weren't built to put up a fight. The Galaxy-class is used extensively in the Dominion War, when it was still the flagship (as the Sovereign was being kept secret). They used the galaxy-class for peaceful missions while they were at peace, exploration and humanitarian aid, but she was built to fight, and you can take families off ships before sending them to war. Just because it serves multiple uses doesn't mean it wasn't built with surviving a fight as the undisputed victor in mind.

/v/ fleet was some of the best times Ive had playing a video game. Griefing low level raids by pulling every mob to the respawn and watching the world burn was fun, as. Was Glitching out of the battle area in pvp, making the other team search for ages for us.
