The fact is that the Stone Tower was cursed. They were trying to reach the Gods, but instead of going up, they were going down. Stone Tower led them to their version of Hell, and cursed them all for eternity. It's basically the Tower of Babel, except Satan instead of God.

That said, Snowhead is 10x worse, as everyone is miserable, freezing to death, starving to death, and out of time.

Hell, a few of the people simply die on day 3 if you don't clear Snowhead in Day 1 or 2.
