It's more 2D platformer than 2D fighter, though you're not juming on anyone's heads. Instead of lanes, there are multiple floors you traverse, whether through ladders, springboards or drop-through floors. It's not even three floors, either. Some mechanics or character abilities are built around this, like the superhero who can gank the floor above or below them by divebombing through the floor.
